Handy inking is the answer for Healeys in its foray into B2 production

Friday 13. August 2010 - Healeys in Ipswich has ordered five additional handy.fill ink systems and guide rail kits for the secondhand Speedmaster CD 74 it has installed to test the B2 format market.

“We first had handy.fills for our eight-colour Speedmaster SM 52 long perfector and then took them for our Anicolor press so it made sense to have it for the new CD,” says Philip Dodd, managing director.
“We didn’t want to go back to tins and spatulas. I was an operator once and I know that no matter how careful you are, you’re going to drop a tin at some point. Cartridges don’t spill, they are easy to use, convenient, tidy and they look good. They reduce waste because there’s no skinning.”
To date Healeys’ foray into B2 has enabled the East Anglian firm to keep in-house some jobs that would otherwise have been put out but it doesn’t believe it has yet achieved its full potential with the format and is planning a push into existing and new markets to increase the loading.
“On our next new press we will certainly consider ink.line, ink cartridges controlled from the central console although if that happens we will have to watch out for operator obesity as they won’t have to whiz about between units quite as much,” jokes Mr Dodd. “To date handy.fills have met our needs and given the operator a cleaner, more efficient method of applying ink.”
In addition to commercial work from a regional and national base, Healeys has built a reputation for quality colour work for many of the top London art galleries.
