DTI Lightning strikes at The Salt Lake Tribune

Wednesday 11. August 2010 - Web and mobile content solution combines with print to streamline news workflow across all channels

Digital Technology International (DTI) announces that The Salt Lake Tribune , a MediaNews Group property in Salt Lake City, Utah,  is now live using DTI Lightning, DTI’s multidimensional content management system for Web and mobile publishing.
DTI Lightning is technology within DTI ContentPublisher, DTI’s editorial solution, also live at The Salt Lake Tribune. DTI Lightning allows The Tribune to create content once, and publish it in real-time to multiple channels without interfacing with a third-party system.
With DTI Lightning, The Tribune achieves their business goal of streamlining their digital news production by integrating their newsroom operations.
“We think of Web and print together, rather than separate departments. We needed to make the entire newsroom be the Web staff. This is a reflection of modern realities for newsrooms and DTI Lightning gave us the key element in the integration,” said Tim Fitzpatrick, deputy editor, The Salt Lake Tribune.
The Tribune editors and reporters needed the ability to collaborate, produce, and manage their stories to appear in print and on the Web at the same time, while maintaining total control over their content and presentation of the data. DTI Lightning will manage the flow of content from off-site sources, as well as those throughout their enterprise, and publish to all media channels.

“We wanted our editors and reporters to be able to fix their own errors and manage their own sections. This integration is vital to turning the Web side over to the newsroom,” said Fitzpatrick.  “Reducing our Web staff and allowing our people to make changes to their own sections were important issues for us, and DTI Lightning makes it all work.”
“The Salt Lake Tribune will be able to serve print and digital out of a single, high-performance database-something they wanted to do,” said Dan Paulus, DTI, vice president, sales. “They are now able to streamline workflows, consolidate resources and most important, they can be agile to adapt to changing conditions on the fly. That is important in today’s economy.”
