Oce Showcases Innovations in Geographic Information Systems Printing, Workflow at 2010 ESRI International User Conference
Tuesday 13. July 2010 - Oce, an international leader in digital document management, will display its latest solutions to help Geographic Information Systems (GIS) operators improve print quality, efficiency and workflow at booth #2507 during the 2010 ESRI International User Conference, July 12-16 in San Diego, CA.
“The Oce solutions on display at this year’s user conference easily integrate with ESRI applications to provide the ESRI user community with the fastest, most productive and easiest to use large format color printing systems, able to handle the largest and most complex of GIS files,” said Sal Sheikh, Vice President, Marketing, Oce Wide Format Printing Systems division of Oce North America.
Capture and Print Complex Information at World Class Speed
Layers of complex imagery and data are necessary to produce intelligent maps that enable proactive decision making. Unfortunately, limitations within existing large format print technology often cause GIS operators to remove layers of critical information. Maps are scaled back prior to printing because printers lack sufficient processing speed and cannot handle the required file size, detail or depth.
During the conference, Oce will display an innovative solution to solve plotting issues in GIS workflows – the Oce ColorWave 600 printer. This all-around productive system ensures users can meet tight deadlines without sacrificing layers of detailed information. The printer can produce up to 30 full color 30″ x 42″ maps per hour and the embedded Oce PowerM Plus controller ensures processing times of complex GIS files are not a bottleneck.
Additionally, innovative Oce CrystalPoint technology delivers instantly dry prints, so GIS maps can be handled, stacked or folded immediately. All images are waterproof, which means maps can be provided for field work in all conditions when printed onto durable Tyvek media. The 42-inch-wide printer holds up to six media rolls, each holding up to 650 feet of inexpensive, uncoated plain paper. This unprecedented media capacity reduces media loading and saves time.

All-in-One Innovation for Easy Color Integration
The addition of color in GIS documents can increase clarity- especially in detailed maps and drawings – and improve communication, but the cost to implement color can hamper GIS operators. However, the new Oce ColorWave 300, the world’s first integrated large format, single-footprint system for color and monochrome printing, copying and scanning, makes the jump to color more economical.
The Oce ColorWave 300 system’s powerful controller easily handles the most widely used file formats, including HPGL/2, PDF, DWF and JPEG, without sacrificing speed. One simple, intuitive user panel controls all functions. Proven Oce Image Logic and Oce Dynamic Switching technologies ensure first-time-right results. Printing from or scanning to a USB stick provides even more user flexibility. And the optional Top Delivery Tray ensures neat and reliable stacking of up to 50 sheets of media.
The system also supports user sustainability initiatives. Paper waste is eliminated by using automatic original and media size recognition and image positioning features to avoid misprints. Additionally, the system does not emit ozone, dust or odors into the work environment.
Other Solutions on Display Address Low Volumes Needs, Streamlined Print Management
The Oce CS2224 color plotter was designed for very low volume environments that demand high quality 2400 x 1200 dpi printing of their technical color applications, such as line drawings, renderings and GIS aerials. Oce pre-defined settings provide the user with one-touch printing and right-the-first-time results. ONYX CAD-Pro v7 software is now included with every Oce CS2224 plotter, which improves the overall productivity of the system. An upgrade to ONYX Graphics Pro software adds the ability to output Adobe PostScript and raster files directly to the plotter.
Visitors to the Oce booth can also view the latest in print management software. Oce Repro Desk Studio software allows end users to easily build, preview, and submit print jobs to a wide variety of printers all with the same user interface. It also allows jobs to be submitted to local printers or even to an external print provider. Specific workflow rules can be created for the automatic distribution of jobs to the most suitable printers, for example by document format, use of color or size of the print job. Jobs can be created from multiple documents using the free Oce Client Tools(TM) print submission software. Individual documents can then be previewed before printing with true WYSIWYP functionality – What You See Is What You Print – that shows exactly how they will print on the selected printer, allowing accurate checking of document contents and print settings.
