CGS Publishing Technologies International Demonstrates High Value at IPA/IDEAlliance Ink Optimization RoundUP

Wednesday 16. June 2010 - ORIS Ink Saver reduces ink/toner by 24% — with excellent scores for visual color quality

CGS Publishing Technologies International, global leader of color management solutions, digital proofing systems and specially formulated media once again demonstrated the high value of its ORIS product line at the 2010 IPA/IDEAlliance Technical Conference. The event included the first ‘Ink Optimization RoundUP’, an exhaustive evaluation of ink- and toner-saving technologies. ORIS Ink Saver fared extremely well, with an ink/toner reduction of 24% combined with extremely close visual match to the non-optimized test sheet.

In tests performed at Ryerson University, the ORIS Ink Saver results indicated a measured average Delta-E 2000 variance of only 0.16 compared to the non-optimized sheet. When evaluated for visual quality by a panel of judges, the ORIS results received a composite score of 72.5 out of a possible 80. (The original, non-optimized press sheet received a score of 74.5.)

The RoundUP results report may be purchased from IPA/IDEAlliance at: www.printtools.org/pt/publications/inkoptimization.

Ink/Toner Savings Are Only the Beginning

ORIS Ink Saver is distinct from traditional UCR- or GCR-based ink reduction approaches, according to CGS’ strategic business director Bruce Brown. “We also apply ORIS’ unique color management to the file. We not only reduce ink or toner, we also do it in a way that preserves the color integrity of the job. We help our customers print superior color with less ink coverage, better press control, less drying time, and a host of other benefits.”

Where ORIS Ink Saver is particularly welcome is in digital printing, where gray balance and color stability are perennial problems. “It’s great to save on toner,” Brown said, “but with our controlled CMY reduction, ORIS also makes it easier to keep digital presses like Indigo and iGen consistently in line — run-to-run, device-to-device and even digital-to-offset.”

ORIS Ink Saver is a companion product to ORIS Press Matcher, which won an InterTech Award for technical innovation in 2009.
