Anicolor is as simple as ABC so Hereford company goes for a second

Monday 07. June 2010 - Mike Greene, managing director of ABC Print, was already a convert to anilox inking before he visited Ipex.

His first Speedmaster Anicolor SM 52-4+L saved him 1.6 million sheets of paper a year and visitors to the Hereford plant could not believe the 4.5 minute, 15 start up sheet makereadies they were shown. Mr Greene joked that he had had to visit the doctor to see if he could remove the smile from his face.
But only weeks before Ipex he had said he didn’t think he would be investing at the show so it was something of a surprise, even to him, that he was so impressed by the new high pile feeder, short delivery SM 52-5+L that he signed the order.
“We have so much confidence in, and knowledge of, the press,” he says. “We wouldn’t buy a press without Anicolor because it’s so easy to use and to work to ISO 12647-2 colour standards.
“The new shortened delivery is technology introduced on Speedmaster B1 presses that has migrated down to smaller formats. With a fifth colour we have increased flexibility and versatility. On our ten-colour we can handle process colours with seals but now we can handle process inks, special colours and a coat in one pass and we can offer special effects including drip off and metallic coatings.”
With Mike Greene was Chris Froom who runs the prepress operations at ABC. He was there to put the seal on a deal to upgrade the workflow which he did, seeing the technical and commercial benefits of Pressroom Manager which will give the company a more automated solution. The company is also taking advantage on the latest Suprasetter upgrades which will allow it to increase its 12 plates an hour output of Saphira Therma plates by 25% in the next few months.
The £750,000 deal will be bought on a fixed rate hire purchase scheme over a seven year period.
“There’s a lot of doom and gloom but I’m positive and feel you have to keep open minded and embrace various technologies and a broad range of marketing options. We have a new web site and will be looking to add e-commerce or web to print in the near term,” says Mr Greene.
