WAN-IFRA Summer University: Introducing new momentum in newsrooms
Friday 28. May 2010 - The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) will offer the fifth edition of its Summer University from 5 to 7 July next in St. Paul de Vence on the French Riviera.
The three-day seminar, limited to 25 participants, offers a unique opportunity to consider and reaffirm the overall direction of publications, integrate new strategies, and redefine the organisation of newsrooms.
The three-day seminar will focus on how evolving news consumption behaviour, the multiplicity of reading devices, and new multimedia strategies are having a profound impact on newsroom operations, requiring new strategies, new workflows and new working methods.

This seminar, led by an international team with experience in media and leadership, will allow participants to step back and reflect on the fundamental values and services of newspapers while finding new ideas to serve the needs of the always on, always connected new news consumer.
The team includes:
Randy Covington, training director of the WAN-IFRA Newsplex Training Centre at the University of South Carolina, USA. Mr Covington works worldwide with news organizations in the areas of new media story telling, newsroom organization and newsroom management.
Jonathan Halls, Principal of Jonathan Halls & Associates and a former top training executive with the BBC in London and Adjunct Professor at George Washington University in Washington DC. He works with media companies and major industries to develop their leadership teams.
Madeline Finnerty, president of Finnerty International in the USA, who specializes in leadership and change processes.
High-profile newspaper professionals from the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Agence France-Presse, Gazeta Wyborcza and other media companies will also share their strategies and experiences.
The Summer University concept has become so successful that WAN-IFRA is launching an Asian version, a week-long residential programme to be held in Hyderabad, India, from 7 to 13 July next. The leadership development programme, a first-of-its kind on the Indian sub-continent, will be conducted in association with the Indian School of Business and 9.9 School of Convergence.
