Crescent Press looks to a cooler, more efficient future
Friday 28. May 2010 - Technotrans was delighted to welcome Andy Matthews, managing director of Crescent Press, to its stand at Ipex, where he signed an order. The local company has opted to have water-cooled peripherals on its Speedmaster SM 74-10-P.
“We are an ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmentally accredited company and we are always looking at ways to make improvements on both these fronts,” says Mr Matthews.
“To us the more efficient cooling that can be achieved with water rather than air makes good business sense. In addition to reducing our energy bill and giving our operators a better environment to work in (and that can only help productivity), it also means we can keep the press free of paper dust and other debris which has real quality and maintenance advantages. “
In some instances waste heat can be redirected to other parts of a building to provide warmth in the colder months and this is an option Crescent intend to take up. The company produces a wide range of work from brochures to business forms, mailers to menus and wallets to wall charts and it works primarily for print management companies.
“Print management companies are professional buyers and they respect quality and we believe we can meet our own high targets more easily with water-cooled peripherals. It stabilises humidity which can affect paper stocks as well as eliminating airborne powder and dust. With our debut in long perfecting we are moving to new and larger 10,000 sq ft premises in Shirley. To be able to have a better physical workflow and an improved pressroom environment is a real win, win situation,” says Mr Matthews.
Peter Benton, managing director of technotrans, says: “Continental printers have been faster in the adoption of water-cooled peripherals to date although we have over 60 systems in the UK and we have seen increased interest in the run up to, and here at, Ipex. There are a variety of options and single-or multi-press solutions which can be specified on new orders but also retrofitted. Anyone keen to increase pressroom efficiency should take a look.”
