callas pdfaPilot 2.2 converts OpenOffice documents to PDF/A
Monday 10. May 2010 - The PDF/A tool supports open-source office software and enhances its function for replacing fonts
Using the pdfaPilot, even users who work with OpenOffice can now convert their documents to PDF/A. callas software has developed the functions of their flagship product to meet these needs. pdfaPilot 2.2 not only supports all OpenOffice’s own formats but also supports other formats that can be processed using open-source office software. This means that all texts, tables or presentations that were created using the various OpenOffice programs can be converted into PDF/A. In doing so, pdfaPilot 2.2 automatically fixes any errors that may occur when you create PDF/A files from Office applications. In addition, callas software has enhanced the font replacement in pdfaPilot. This function can be used if font types that you want to retroactively embed into a PDF/A document are no longer available. The user now has considerably more options to choose from for this. A PDF/A file can now be created automatically within a process from all PCs – irrespective of whether all of the fonts that were used to create the document are installed on the computer.
Since pdfaPilot came onto the market, callas software has continuously developed the PDF/A tool. By supporting OpenOffice, they have expanded the possibilities for pdfaPilot on platforms such as Linux and Solaris. Even users who do not work with Windows and Microsoft Office can now produce regulation-compliant PDF/A files from their documents. “In doing this, we are providing all users – regardless of their operating system – with the option to use a secure archiving format and to ensure that their written information is still available far into the future”, clarifies Olaf Drümmer, Managing Director of callas software.
The users are therefore not only platform-independent but also format-independent. pdfaPilot 2.2 is not restricted to processing OpenOffice’s own formats of the various programs – for example, OpenOffice Writer for processing texts (ODT) or OpenOffice Calc for spreadsheets (ODS). It also supports all formats with which OpenOffice can work. These include, for example, the Word format DOC or HTML. Even these file formats can be effortlessly converted to PDF/A.
Missing fonts no longer cause problems
By improving the replacement of fonts, callas Software is focusing on another problem connected with PDF/A. In accordance with the ISO standard, all fonts that are used must be embedded into the document. However, if this occurs retroactively, certain fonts may no longer be available. In this case, you can now use the pdfaPilot function for font replacement, which has been significantly enhanced.
