SMART Papers, continuing its drive to produce coated printing and packaging papers with leading amounts of FSC-certified post-consumer waste fiber, today announced the launch of Knightkote Matte Packaging and Folding Board in a coated 1-side (C1S) and coated 2-side (C2S) offering.
The premium matte coated board is manufactured with 50% total recycled content including 40% PCW, and features a 92-bright, cool white shade, in calipers ranging from 7- to 14-point. It offers manufacturers, packaging converters, packaging printers and greeting card publishers superior environmental credentials and print fidelity.
“This new product meets an important market need,” explained Tom Kleimeyer, director of marketing for SMART Papers. “The vast majority of premium coated board products contain no post-consumer waste fibers. 40% PCW is a significant new benchmark in this high-visibility, high-demand category of printing and converting papers.”
SMART Papers said the new product also can be used in pharmaceutical, perfume and other non-food product packaging. Other applications include direct mail, brochures, announcements, book covers, folders, post cards, tags, pocket folders, menus and much more.
Knightkote Packaging and Folding Board provides excellent stiffness and convertibility. It is specially engineered to handle foil stamping, folding, scoring, aqueous coating, varnish, embossing and die-cutting. The C1S product, primarily for greeting card applications, delivers a smooth inside surface for imprinting and personalization.

Knightkote Packaging and Folding Board is part of the respected Knightkote Matte family of printing and converting papers. They are available in 70-, 80- and 100-pound text; 65-, 80-, and 100-pound cover as well as 130-pound double-thick covers.
Knightkote Matte is also available in Canvas and Vertical textures, which give added dimension to the printed surface. In addition, it is available in a high-yield, 7- and 9-point return card that is U.S. Postal Service guaranteed. High-yield reply cards translate to cost-savings and added bulk.
All papers are elemental chlorine free, process chlorine free, acid-free and meet and exceed archival standards. They deliver superior ink holdout, vibrant color reproduction and high print contrast.
