Plastic Jar Gives Global Green a Full-Bodied Solution
Thursday 22. April 2010 - The value of using RPC Containers Corbys barrier plastics jars for foodservice applications has been recognised by condiment producer Global Green, who has relaunched its range in a convenient RPC-manufactured pack that has been stylishly decorated using a full-body shrink sleeve.
The Indian based Global Green group is a food multinational owned by Avantha group, which runs food companies in several countries. With a truly global customer base, the group is the largest processor of condiments outside of the USA. The foodservice sector is an important customer for Global Green, and the group supplies a range of products including gherkins, onions, capers, cherries, sweet corn, green peas and jalapenos.
Historically, Global Greens foodservice products have been packed in glass jars, but the company has switched to plastic following customer feedback, with the first trials taking place in its group company in Belgium, Intergarden NV. “There are many reasons why plastic containers are an attractive proposition for our foodservice customers, and we were quick to realise the multitude of benefits in terms of functionality, convenience and aesthetics,” explains Bart Jolie of Intergarden NV.
Being shatterproof, plastic jars are safer to handle in busy kitchen environments – indeed, in many territories legislation has banned the use of glass. Plastic is lightweight and thus easier to transport, saving costs and reducing the packs overall carbon footprint. The use of barrier materials such as EVOH ensure that plastics maintain product freshness over a long ambient shelf-life, and jars are easily recloseable for multiple use, an essential requirement in foodservice.
Global Green selected RPC Corby due to its reputation for high quality products and service, with particular emphasis on its expertise in the manufacture of PP/EVOH/PP foodservice containers. The companys relative proximity to Intergardens Belgian filling plant was another contributory factor.
The attractive contours of RPC Corbys design are intended to create a stylish effect akin to retail packs, providing Intergarden with another significant point of differentiation. This is enhanced by the use of a full-body shrink sleeve, a decorative method not usually seen in the foodservice sector.
“At Global Green, we pride ourselves on the quality of our ingredients, and its important that our packaging reflects these high standards through its functionality and appearance,” confirms Bart Jolie. “RPC Corbys solution is fit for purpose on every level and, when allied to the shrink sleeve, conveys an outstanding brand image.”
