Wednesday 21. April 2010 - IT concepts for long-term success in the publishing industry

ppi Media, a company of manroland AG, will be staging its Open Days for the tenth time on June 14-15, 2010. This two-day meeting will focus on cross-media ad and production solutions and IT strategies of leading international media companies.
The quest for a business concept that will enable daily newspapers to position them successfully in the multimedia publishing industry has continued into 2010. What is the key to success? Investment? Restructuring? Or is it best to simply wait? At this year’s Open Days, national and international speakers will present their companies’ individual IT strategies and reveal what these solutions could look like.
Patric Schäfer (Saarbrücker Zeitung), for instance, will speak about the conditions under which the three sites of the Saarbrücker Zeitungsgruppe – Cottbus, Saarbrücken and Trier – switched to a central production workflow and, at the same time, introduced a new editorial and ad booking system. Another speaker, Stephan Puls (F.A.Z.), will present the strategy of the F.A.Z. towards cross-media ad marketing and provide information on their initial steps with AdX, ppi’s ad space reservation solution for print, online and mobile which the F.A.Z. decided to install in the fall of 2009.
International benchmarking
On the first day, Vineet Chawals from the Hindustan Times, India’s third largest daily, will focus on the future of the newspaper market. Edward Capaldi (Gulf News) will offer the participants an insight into the strategic positioning of the Gulf News in the UAE.
News and business concepts
Other presentations at ppi’s Open Days will focus on outsourcing services, micropayment solutions and new features in ppi’s products. At this year’s event, three startup companies (Xnip, Geoflags and Redmatch International) will have the opportunity to present their business concepts for the media industry to a large target audience.
