Rosehill commits to Speedmaster because of fastest set up times
Wednesday 07. April 2010 - Marking the complete transformation into a B2 printing house, Rosehill Press is investing in a Speedmaster SM 74-5+L five colour press with coater and Axis Control spectrophotometer.
Eighteen months ago the then predominantly B3 company decided to test the water with a secondhand B2four- colour press from the same manufacturer as its existing two- colour B2 machine. Both are from a rival manufacturer but Heidelberg has won the order for this new press installation on the proven speed of makeready over other makes of machine.
The new SM 74-5+L will be commissioned next month at the companys 22,000 sq ft factory in Rotherham. This will give sufficient space for the high productivity that will be realised with the high pile SM 74-5.
“We saw new digital technology encroaching on some parts of our B3 work but we didnt want to follow that route so we decided to stick with litho and expand into B2,” says production director Christian Chadwick. “We have redirected our marketing and increased our bindery, last year adding a Heidelberg Stitchmaster ST100 and a perfect binding line. Now we are investing in another press to ensure we can keep the bindery running to its capacity.”
With the new press, which features the Prinect Press Centre, comes an investment in Prinect Pressroom Manager which is software that the company says will change the way it plans and will enhance its throughput. It will also mean reduced makeready time and waste. The company has already run Prepress Interface on the SM52 which this new press replaces. It will be adopted on the SM74 which is combined with Axis Control spectrophotometric colour measurement to give the company closed loop and very high quality colour and also minimal set up times.
The company elected to have a five-colour with coater having missed the facility for single pass with special colours on its four-and two-colour B2 presses. The company is retaining a QM46 for its short run spot colour stationery work and have also invested in a Xerox 7002 digital press which bridges the full colour B2-B3 gap. The company also produces commercial stationery and forms and for this it has three Edelmann miniwebs.
“This press is the next step of a new era for Rosehill. The investment over the past 18 months has enabled us to move forward with confidence, and continue to give our customers the service they deserve” says Mr Chadwick. “My ultimate dream remains to be running multiple Heidelberg ten-colour presses around the clock alongside our miniwebs.”
In reality, the new press will fit into the current shift patterns, which will extend as capacity dictates.
This is a 50 staff company with a bullish approach to expansion by being passionate about service.
