Sheffield Hallam University utilises Xerox technology to offer photo printing services

Tuesday 06. April 2010 - Sheffield Hallam University has invested in a new Xerox Photo Kiosk application for its print room that will deliver new photo printing services to students and academics and drive up revenue.

The introduction of this new personalised consumer service is part of Sheffield Hallam University’s strategy to introduce new ways to utilise existing technology. The Xerox Photo Kiosk will help the University drive additional revenue by offering photo applications on top of the traditional print room services, which will increase the print volume through an existing Xerox DocuColor 5000 machine with minimum investment.

For the 30,000 students and staff at Sheffield Hallam University, the print room will now easily be able to produce digital photo albums, calendars or posters. Users create their own photo products on the Xerox Kiosk in the University’s print room by choosing the photographic product of their choice and then customising it with their photographs and messages. Once created on the Photo Kiosk, the university’s existing DocuColor 5000 is used to deliver the final photo product.

Paul Bishop, print services manager at Sheffield Hallam University, said, “By providing digital photo printing we are offering everyone at the University an easy-to-use photo print service that delivers excellent value for money. At the same time, the Xerox Photo Kiosk application will add a new revenue stream to our business by allowing us to harness the latest print applications without making a large investment in new printers. With Xerox’s Photo Kiosk and DocuColor machine, we now have the right tools in place to help grow digital print profit.”

Peter Taylor, director & general manager, Large Enterprise & Graphic Communications, Xerox UK, added, “The Xerox Photo Kiosk is opening Sheffield Hallam University up to a new application market that utilises digital colour printing in order to increase footfall into the print room. The Photo Kiosk is a best-fit print technology for the university’s need to drive future profit from colour.”

The Xerox Photo Kiosk, developed in partnership with Imaxel, has been designed for graphic arts businesses who wish to deliver quick, simple personalised photographic applications such as calendars, photograph albums and books, posters and photo cards. The Xerox Photo Kiosk is supplied with more than sixty different photographic templates. Consumers select the photographic product of their choice and then customise it with their photographs and messages. This simple process creates a pdf document that is then ready for the store front to print. The solution is designed to work in tandem with the full range of Xerox production colour printers, from Xerox’s DocuColor 242 to the Xerox iGen4 Digital Production Press.
