Herbert Walker cuts outwork bill with investment in Diana Pro
Wednesday 31. March 2010 - Herbert Walker in Shipley is continuing to invest, returning to Heidelberg just a year after installing a new Speedmaster XL 105-5+L (five-colour with coater). This time it has placed an order for a Diana Pro folder gluer which will cut outwork by more than £100,000 a year and give it greater control over costs and turnround times.
The new folder gluer which is being commissioned this month will enable the company to handle a range of straightline and lock bottom boxes for the retail sector and to handle greetings cards without the need for pre-creasing.
Deputy managing director Mark Vanston says: “Our existing outworkers were very helpful in providing advice to support our move. We liked the greetings card capability of the Diana Pro and the fact you dont have to pre-crease. We liked the flexibility of the Diana and we run three Speedmaster presses so we know the service and support Heidelberg provide and like their approach to open networking.”
To enable the company to use the machine effectively Herbert Walker has recruited an experienced folder gluer operator and he will be team leader training up other staff to run the equipment. Initially the Diana Pro will run day shifts but it is hoped demand will push it onto double day shifts soon.
The Diana Pro is capable of running at 650m/minute and is a workhorse which can output a very broad range of products and materials. In addition to packaging and greetings cards it can also handled CD covers and direct mail work. The line at Herbert Walker is a 94cm wide, 17.5 m long line which uses the Digiset semi-automatic preparation system to help complete makeready speedily.
