Envelope printing with ROLAND 50
Thursday 11. March 2010 - bonitasprint expands its machinery and product portfolio
bonitasprint is one of the best-known printing companies in Würzburg, Germany. Difficult times in the years 2004 and 2005 were overcome by a new management team through future-oriented investments in all technical resources. The latest part of this strategy is a ROLAND 50 that is used to print envelopes, among other things.
More than five years ago, Dieter Körner took over as Managing Director of bonitasprint gmbh and made extensive investments in the complete IT and communications technology as well as the machinery. During 2006 and 2007, bonitasprint purchased two ROLAND 700 HiPrint presses, renewed machines in its in-house bookbindery, and aligned the company for environment-compatible print production. Meanwhile this PSO-certified printer employs 58 people compared with 21 at the time of the takeover. The product portfolio includes commercial printing, annual reports, catalogs and books. Since December 2009, production at bonitasprint is climate neutral.
Small-format for printing envelopes
In 2009, bonitasprint decided to buy a four-color small-format press, mainly for printing envelopes, and opted for a ROLAND 50. Dieter Körner was impressed by the XXL technology in the 36 x 52 format: “The excellent solids, homogeneous screens and – thanks to the Transferter system – smear-free printing meet our high standard of quality. Besides that, substrate thicknesses up to 0.8 mm gives us a great deal of production flexibility.” bonitasprint wanted to seamlessly integrate the ROLAND 50 with an existing flexible envelope feeder, after all, envelopes today account for around 60 percent of all jobs produced on the ROLAND 50. Working closely together, manroland and bonitasprint had the ROLAND 50 with the envelope feeder up and running in summer 2009.
Leo Ziegler-Schaad, Small-Format Product Manager at manroland: “Although it is a relatively simple module, an envelope feeder can provide genuine added value with small-format presses. A prerequisite: the printing company must have an effective marketing concept. For this application manroland offers the printcom Stenz Feeder.” Managing Director Dieter Körner is satisfied: “The ROLAND 50 has been in production for six months. The four-color press enabled us to gain new orders and produce existing ones more economically. Work we previously outsourced we now attend to completely ourselves. With our full-service production chain we are very competitive and flexible, and our customers reward us for this efficiency.”
