Xerox and the Photo Market: It Just Clicks
Monday 22. February 2010 - Customer Successes Take Center Stage at PMA 2010
Print provider produces more than three million greeting cards in a single month with Xerox technology
The photo publishing market remains a lucrative and expanding space for print service providers, with several success stories serving as a backdrop for Xerox Corporation’s (NYSE: XRX) presence at PMA 2010.
This year marks the fourth consecutive year Xerox will bring digital print technology, software and business development tools – all designed to drive production of photo books, calendars, trading cards and other photo publishing products – to the photo industry’s largest annual tradeshow. A joint booth presence with Fujifilm enables both imaging giants to leverage their expertise to serve customers from professional photo labs to traditional print providers.
“Xerox’s technology and software create a significant revenue opportunity for photo businesses and print providers, allowing them to bring photos to life as photo books, calendars and greeting cards,” said Philippe Laude, vice president of photo and packaging, Xerox Corporation.
To help print providers succeed in the photo publishing market, Xerox will showcase photo applications and software, as well as the DIMA Innovation award-winning Xerox 700 Digital Color Press. The 70 page-per-minute digital system was recognized for a new finishing option that produces booklets in-line, and will be on display in Xerox booth no. 3121 along with the Xerox Phaser 7760. The Xerox DocuColor 260 system will be located in the Fujifilm booth.
Photo publishing successes
Equipped with four Xerox iGen3 Presses, SendOutCards, based in Salt Lake City, produces millions of customized greeting cards annually.
“We printed and sold in excess of three million cards last December – more than double our December 2008 sales,” said Joe Kenemore, chief operating officer, SendOutCards. “Key factors for that sales spike were the print quality and production efficiency of our Xerox iGen 3 presses.” The company plans to expand into the photo book and calendar markets this year.
Other businesses using Xerox technology to increase photo publishing sales include:
Escaneográfica, based in Santiago, Chile, produces high-quality photo books for customers of one of the largest retailers in the country. The print provider expects to produce more than 5,000 photo books per month in addition to catalogues, brochures, restaurant menus and real estate books on its Xerox DocuColor 8002 Digital Press.
Fitzgeralds Photographic Services, a custom photo laboratory in Guernsey on the Channel Islands, United Kingdom, is using the Xerox 700 Digital Color Press to print photo books, calendars and greeting cards. “The Xerox 700 has opened up our business to companies and organizations that want short run and print on demand photo products without the financial commitment of long print runs,” said John Fitzgerald, president, Fitzgeralds Photographic Services.
Xerox customers from MyPicTales, Freeze Frame Publishing and Harold’s Photo Centers, Inc. will discuss the business benefits of photo publishing during Xerox’s Real Business Live! event on Monday, Feb. 22 from 4 – 5 p.m. in booth no. 2679; as well as several times throughout the show at the Xerox booth.
