“Building the Next Generation Newsroom”
Tuesday 16. February 2010 - The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is looking well beyond the current generation of newsrooms and has dedicated its 9th International Newsroom Summit to helping publishers and editors stay ahead of the changes that are profoundly shaping their world.
Some of the worlds leading Publishers, CEOs, chief editors managing editors and other senior newsroom personnel will gather in London on 21 and 22 April next to exchange ideas and get inspiration to help them take todays newsrooms to the next level.
Among them: Raju Narisetti, Managing Editors of the Washington Post; Will Lewis, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Telegraph; Rainer Esser, Managing Editor of Die Zeit; Marc Walder, CEO for Ringier publications in Switzerland and Germany; George Brock, Professor and Head of Journalism at City University London and former Managing Editor of The Times of London; Christian Thorkildsen, News Editor for web TV at Aftenposten; Martim Avillez Figueirado, Director of “i” in Portugal; and many others.

“Newsroom strategy is profoundly affected by changes in society and technology. What do newsrooms have to consider to keep a step ahead, and what comes after the media-integrated newsroom? The conference will help answer these questions,” said Dietmar Schantin, Executive Director for Publishing, Editorial, and General Management at WAN-IFRA.
“Clearly, the growing importance of virtual communities, such as Facebook, are redefining how people socialise and share information,” he said. “The growth of permanent, mobile, broadband and wireless connections point to the expanding use of mobile phones and other devices. And these developments make is easier for news consumer to personalize the content they receive.”
