C.P. Bourg to show perfect binding with in-line three-knife trimming at IPEX
Wednesday 10. February 2010 - Belgian print finishing specialists C.P. Bourg s.a. will show their latest BB 3002 perfect binding system with in-line CMT 330 three-knife trimmer on the Hewlett Packard stand at IPEX. The system will be used for binding output from the full range of HP Indigo presses and the new HP T300 Color Inkjet Web Press.
IPEX HALL 19, STAND E-730
The BB 3002 is available in both EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) and PUR (Polyurethane Reactive Adhesive) versions. Both have their applicationspecific benefits: EVA is the classic hot-melt perfect binding adhesive and has a much faster drying time and is useful for situations where the output needs to be handled very soon after binding. PUR is a newer development with excellent bond strength on a very wide range of substrates (for example, even acetate sheets can be bound) and is very resistant to chemicals and temperature variations which could cause trouble with EVA binding. It needs a slightly longer curing time before handling.
The Bourg BB3002 is the latest binder from C.P. Bourg s.a. and is the first entirely self-setting binder which senses the books length and thickness, so set-up is automated even for the “run of one” applications where each successive book is different from the one before. The operator simply loads the book-blocks, either as flat sheets or folded sections, into the clamp of the BB 3002 and the system will automatically jog the set and detect format. As soon as the operators hands are clear of the safety photo-cells at the front of the machine, it will send the book data to the milling, gluing and cover-feed sections.
The BB 3002 features in EVA version features two glue rollers with a contrarotating back-spinner for enhanced glue penetration. Side-glue rollers ensure a perfect adhesion of the wraparound covers. Covers are automatically creased with up to thirteen male or female creases and wing-book covers are easily processed.
The in-line CMT 330 three-knife trimmer completes the job by cutting waste off three sides of the bound books for a perfect finish. “Connecting the binder and the three-knife trimming makes perfect sense” says Bourgs marketing manager Eric Le Moine. “It means that one operator can take output from and offset or digital print line and finish the job in one pass. From feeding unbound book-blocks into the binders clamp to the final output being stacked ready for despatch, there is no operator intervention required at all.”
