Giesecke & Devrient Delivers 10,000th Numeron System
Monday 01. February 2010 - A global success story: Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is today marking an impressive milestone - the company recently delivered its 10,000th Numeron banknote processing system. The system, which is designed to handle medium currency volumes, has proved extremely popular since its market launch in 2002 - particularly in India, Russia, Turkey, and South Africa. In India alone, more than 2,000 Numeron systems have been installed in processing centers run by large commercial banks since 2004. The 10,000th machine was delivered to the Alliance Bank in Malaysia.
Giesecke & Devrients Numeron machine is an extremely compact banknote processing system designed to handle between 50,000 and 100,000 banknotes a day. Depending on the model, banknotes can be sorted by fitness level into up to three categories (ATM, fit, and unfit). At the same time, each note is examined for authenticity and its value registered. When developing the system, priority was given not only to security and speed, but also to ensuring robust technology, reliability, and ease of use. With its compact dimensions (51 x 36 x 45 centimeters), the Numeron is ideal for use in commercial banks, cash centers, cash-in-transit companies, and casinos, as well as central banks. The system complies with the provisions of Article 6 of the ECB Framework.
Ralf Wintergerst, Head of the Banknote Processing division at Giesecke & Devrient, explains: “When G&D introduced its Numeron system back in 2002, it added to its portfolio a high-performance product that meets customer requirements exactly. Thats why the Numeron has made us market leader in its product class and allowed us to secure a global market share of around 30 percent within a fairly short space of time.”
Among its outstanding features, the Numeron boasts G&Ds innovative, high-tech CashRay 180 sensor, as well as its touchscreen-controlled PMI. The system can be readily integrated into existing cash management software, for example Giesecke & Devrients own CompassCM. And thanks to G&Ds Numeron Configuration Software (NCS), a Windows-based software tool, users can easily configure and manage several Numeron machines from a single PC should they so wish.
The Numeron is regularly adapted to meet new market and customer needs. A range of system variants is available for different applications, accommodating customer requirements such as high-grade fitness sorting or multiple currency processing. A further option incorporates an additional sensor for specific authentication of US dollar notes.
