CGS Publishing Technologies International first Company to obtain FograCert Contract Proofing System Certification for the new Process Standard Rotogravure PSR V2
Monday 07. December 2009 - A total of six system configurations with ORIS Color Tuner // Web and ORIS PearlPROOF substrates have been certified by FOGRA based on Process Standard Rotogravure PSR V2
CGS Publishing Technologies International, global leader of color management solutions, digital proof systems and specially formulated media, announced today that altogether six ORIS Color Tuner // Web configurations have been certified by FOGRA, based on the ISO 12647-7 criteria for Contract Proofing Systems. For the first time, the certification uses the new ECI reference color space rotogravure (PSR Process Standard Rotogravure V2), as documented in ISO 12647-4. The reference profiles have been available from June 2009.
With the introduction of the new PSR standard ECI has overcome major points of criticism in regards to proofing. For one, the previous standard appeared very different on different proofing systems and the gray balance of the proof fluoresced in various colors across the entire highlight area. The profiles used until now were very unharmonic due to excessive manual corrections, and were based on outdated proofing technology. As in offset printing, where it is common practice for quite some time, the new standard PSR V2 has largely refrained from manually editing the profiles and proof certifications from now on will solely be based on a spectrophotometric evaluation. FOGRA has been assigned to conduct such certifications.
The FograCert system certifications have each been granted for the printing conditions PSR LWC PLUS V2 (previously HWC), PSR LWC STD V2 and PSR SC STD V2 on the inkjet printing systems Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and Epson Stylus Pro 4880 using nanoporous ORIS PearlPROOF Super White substrate. The corresponding ORIS .dat profiles can now be downloaded from the CGS website.
Andreas Kämmerer, COO of CGS Publishing Technologies comments: “During the last couple of years, the proofing and spectral measurement technology has made enormous advances. Consequently, proofing profiles for offset are commonly created iteratively, using a metrological process. In the past, CGS has criticized time and again the practice of excessively editing PSR proof profiles manually. In practice, this has caused unnecessary problems in engraving and substantial differences between ICC and proofing profiles. With the patented ORIS iterative profiling technology, perfect color profiles can be created quickly, reliably and above all, purely metrologically. The proofing results from the now certified ORIS Color Tuner // Web systems show a perfect visual and metrological match with the reference prints of the new printing condition PSR V2. Our color specialists have taken an active part in the new standard. CGS actively supports the efforts for global standards in all areas, for example in digital printing, in order to provide a maximum of production security for our customers. Gravure printers and their suppliers, who predominantly operate Europe-wide, particularly can profit from the advantages of ORIS Color Tuner // Web in the future. This Hybrid Proofing technology combines soft and hardcopy proofing as well as certification in one single application. By completely supporting the new Epson printers with the built-in spectrophotometry, a fully automated decentralized proofing workflow finally becomes reality.”
Trevor Haworth, CEO of CGS GmbH adds: “We are delighted that FOGRA has certified ORIS Color Tuner // Web together with the OBA-free ORIS PearlPROOF paper and the latest Epson printer generation based on the new rotogravure printing condition. This allows now also gravure printers and their suppliers to benefit from the superior ORIS color management technology.”
