Munich, November 20, 2009. Dr. Walter Schlebusch, Member of the Management Board of Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), is being presented today in Berlin with the Prize of the German-Malaysian Society. The accolade is awarded every year for outstanding services in the development of mutual cultural understanding between Germany and Malaysia. Every year a special theme is chosen for the award and this year the Prize is being presented under the banner of “Sustainability and the Clean Economy”.

The German-Malaysian Society makes the award to honor special contributions to the promotion of mutual understanding between cultures. In selecting this year’s winners special attention was paid to a demonstrated and distinctive ability to “walk the talk”, or to translate words into action.

Dr. Achim Deja, President of the German-Malaysian Society, explains that Dr. Walter Schlebusch is being honored for his many years of commitment to the economic development of Malaysia: “Dr. Schlebusch demonstrated his belief and trust in Malaysia by establishing banknote printing in the country. Ahead of many others, he took on responsibility and gave substance to his belief that integrity and sustainability are an integral part of leadership.” Karl-Georg Nickel, Executive Board Member of the Bavarian Print & Media Association added in his laudatory address: “This award honors Dr. Walter Schlebusch’s exemplary entrepreneurial role and substantial contributions towards shaping the course of not only the German, but also the international printing industry. The major investments made in recent years by G&D at its production sites in Germany and abroad – including Malaysia – provide a fine example of his distinguished efforts.”

The other prize winner this year was Mr. Lee Swee Eng, Founder and Group Managing Director of KNM Group Berhad. Through his efforts to replace biodiesel made from palm oil with a product that is obtained from the jatropha plant Mr. Lee is playing a pioneering role in the clean economy.

The award is being presented today with the kind support and in the presence of the Malaysian Ambassador S. E. Datuk Zakaria Sulong in the Malaysian Embassy, Berlin.
