New Website for the International Association of Sports Newspapers (IASN)

Tuesday 27. October 2009 - The International Association of Sports Newspapers (IASN) has launched a new website, www.press-iasn.org, to highlight its work in the promotion of the interests and freedom of the sports press.

The website, conceived for media executives, sponsors, and the sports press audience at large, highlights the role of the Association in the international sport community and illustrates, through IASN’s mission, the major areas of concern in the sector.

“We will continue to enhance our website adding new features and to reflect the expanding activities of the Association,” said Santi Nolla, the Association’s President.

The IASN, founded in June 2008, is dedicated to: safeguarding of the ethical and economic interests of sports newspapers; the promotion of the role of sports newspapers as a marketing tool for the brands associated with sport; the fight against racism and xenophobia in sports; the promotion of sports and reading among children; the support to volunteerism in the sporting world; and the promotion of the use of sport as a tool in development policies.

The founding and Board members of IASN include: La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, El Mundo Deportivo and Marca in Spain, L’Equipe in France, Olé in Argentina, and Lance! in Brazil. Membership extends to both sports newspapers and the sports news executives working for the general press.

The IASN, whose international secretariat is based in Paris, acts as the sports arm of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), the global organisation of the world’s newspapers and news publishers representing more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries.
