Kodak to Add MICR Printing to VERSAMARK VL2000/4000 Series Printing Systems

Tuesday 20. October 2009 - Upcoming solution makes in-line MICR printing more efficient and affordable

To address the specific needs of transactional and commercial printers offering check printing and security printing services, Kodak is adding an MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) printing capability to its KODAK VERSAMARK VL2000/2200 and VL4000/4200 Series Printing Systems. Different from other solutions on the market because it relies on a separate MICR accessory rather than replacing the standard black ink, Kodak’s MICR technology provides a more productive, affordable solution.

With the KODAK Solution, the MICR printing takes place in-line at speeds ranging from 246 fpm to 492 fpm. By imaging MICR in-line with a dedicated accessory, printers are able to reduce turnaround time and realize cost savings.

“MICR printing requires high quality and conformance to exacting standards,” said Ronen Cohen, Vice President of Marketing, Digital Printing Solutions, Kodak. “Kodak’s unique approach of separating the MICR printing process from the rest of the black printing in-line gives our customers a significant cost advantage, as well as greater production efficiencies.”

The new solution is ideal for a variety of applications including the production of business checks, personal checks, coupons, convenience and balance transfer checks, and other transactional documents. MICR printing is typically offered by TransPromo and transactional printers as well as commercial printers that support direct mail, transactional, loyalty, and check printing clients.

Kodak’s MICR solution will be commercially available in the first half of 2010.
