PRINT 09 BOOSTS MOMENTUM FOR MITSUBISHI SILVER DIGIPLATE

Monday 19. October 2009 - Once again Mitsubishi Imaging proves that the Silver DigiPlate system is the right choice for printers looking to reduce production costs and add more to their bottom line.

“We had a tremendous response from printers looking to capitalize on the money-saving advantages of Silver DigiPlate,” said Mitsubishi’s Director of Graphic Arts Marketing Frances Cicogna. “As printers are facing tough economic times, they rely on us to help them make smart investment decisions that will carry them into the future. Silver DigiPlate is a perfect investment due to its flexibility and much lower cost of ownership than metal CTP as well as many digital print devices.”

Printers could immediately see these advantages while watching the live demonstration of Silver DigiPlate printing process color at the show. Mitsubishi Imaging assembled in its booth a fully functional print shop environment featuring CTP offset production and ran process color jobs repeatedly throughout the show on the Ryobi 524GE press. Beginning with its Smart Tools workflow software files were automatically preflighted, corrected, proofed on Diamond Proof inkjet proofing papers, output to plate on the DPX polyester CTP platesetter, and finally mounted on the press. The demonstration showed, using new automated technologies in file production, platemaking and on-press that offset printing can be more economical and efficient than a digital print solution.

Mitsubishi Imaging also featured several of its customers who grew their business as a direct result of switching to polyester CTP and an offset press from a variety of other technologies including digital printing.

One such customer, Bill Cole, Owner, Tri-C Printing, traded-in their DI for a DPX 2 and Ryobi 524 Offset Press. Tri-C saved a considerable amount of money on their consumables. “Spreadsheets don’t lie,” said Bill Cole, “When I ran the numbers mine showed that two thirds of my press payment would be made up in the savings of consumables alone.” They also were able to increase their capacity by taking platemaking offline, which generated an additional $50k in revenue immediately.

“The Silver DigiPlate System is faster and less expensive to run with better quality. What more could you ask for?” said Bob Gajewski, owner of Trend Graphics, who has been in printing for over 30 years. Trend Graphics went from print broker, to copy shop to 4-up full color offset output and has increased their business by 35~40% since investing in their DPX 4 and half-size press.

Mitsubishi added to the advantages of the Silver DigiPlate system by demonstrating an environmental reason to choose polyester plates over metal. They presented data which showed that the energy consumption of polyester platesetters is significantly lower than that of its metal counterpart and that CO2 emissions increase when imaging thermal or photopolymer plates due to an increase in electrical activity of the systems. So you can reduce costs, increase revenue, and be environmentally conscious.

With Silver DigiPlate, high-performance process color has never been more affordable. Polyester plates are capable of 175 lpi, and are just as easy to run on press as metal plates. Further, Mitsubishi’s DPX platesetters have built-in punches, ensuring perfect registration, even on plates made at different times. Platesetters are available in 2-up, 4-up and now 6-up formats. The system is perfect for producing short-run process color economically and efficiently.
