The Chinese newspaper Tianjin Ribao has ordered two more UNISET presses in heatset-coldset configuration thus continuing the success story of manroland’s UNISET in China.

August 25, 2009: a great day for the Chinese newspaper Tianjin Ribao and manroland. Wang Hong, editor-in-chief of Tianjin Ribao, and manroland signed a contract for two more UNISET presses in heatset-coldset configuration, consisting of six eight-couple towers, two folders and six reel splicers in total. A milestone for the future intensive cooperation of the two companies, as Wang Hong and Dr. Frank Tietsche, Vice President Sales manroland Webfed Presses, emphatically underscore. This writes another chapter in the outstanding success story of the UNISET in the important Chinese market. Within the last year, besides Tianjin Ribao, also the Chinese printing houses Nanjing Xinhua Ribao, Nanjing Ribao, Yunnan Ribao and Jiefang Ribao ordered UNISET presses, among them two other heatset-coldset hybrid presses.

UNISET: customers discover the possibility to cover all bases
Since its market launch in the early 1990s, more than 100 UNISET printing systems and numerous add-ons have been sold to 35 Chinese customers. The first UNISET installed in China in 1993, by the way, also went to Tianjin Ribao, who has now opted for manroland UNISET presses for the fourth time. Many of the presses sold are follow-up installations; the UNISET presses being delivered nowadays are already the third generation. The configurations have adapted to the rising demands of the Chinese market, and they are equipped for higher pagination, more color capacity and higher productivity for top-quality four-color printing. The speed and productivity of the UNISET have risen all the time. Inline Control systems such as color and cut-off register are now standard. And the share of heatset-coldset hybrid presses is also continually growing.

Renmin Ribao Printing House: high-end products demanded
With regard to exclusive, high-quality printing and folding, the UNISET is groundbreaking. “Thanks to the possibilities with the new UNISET the demand for high-end products rose strongly in our company,” confirms Wang Jinhu, director of the Renmin Ribao (Peoples Daily) printing plant. Situated in the capital Beijing, with its daily circulation of over three million copies throughout the country, it belongs to the most important and influential daily newspapers in China, and ranked ninth in the WAN (World Association of Newspapers) 2005 list of the largest newspapers in the world.

Guangzhou Ribao: tabloid products stitched inline
Guangzhou Ribao ordered a new UNISET with three folders that has been running alongside the company’s other manroland presses since the Beijing Olympics in 2008. This press prints 1.8 million copies daily and was ordered with state-of-the-art technology. The investment accompanied a complete reorganization of the production process so that Guangzhou Ribao can now run parallel production on several presses with a later start-up time. Here the printnet networking software plays a decisive role as the whole planning is organized via the printnet PressManager. Multiple folding options provide Guangzhou Ribao with the technical possibilities for tabloid products stitched inline. Printing plant director Chen Ruican gives a convincing feedback: “The manroland printing systems run perfectly. The services around the presses and even beyond them are extensive and very helpful. Thanks to the UNISET, we have the best and most precise product quality.”

Nanjing Shidai Media: 1.1 billion broadsheet pages every year
Nanjing Shidai Media in the east of the People’s Republic, responsible among other things for printing the Nanjing Ribao newspaper, owns several UNISET presses. More than 150 workers take care of the production of over 20 newspapers for the city and region of Nanjing. This amounts to roughly 1.1 billion broadsheet newspaper pages per year. “We have ordered two new UNISET systems with altogether six printing towers, two with heatset equipment, and intend to become a market leader,” is how Wei Honghai, Deputy General Manager of the printing plant, describes the reason behind the investment. Due to minimum makeready times, the UNISET quickly switches to the next production, utilizing every minute of time. During the day and in the evenings the UNISET produces inserts, brochures, flyers and books, while at night into the early hours it prints the daily newspaper.

Yunnan Ribao: a new level of capacity
Yunnan Ribao is also expecting a new UNISET. “With the new installation, our overall productivity and capacity will reach a previously unknown level,” is how Wang Jianyou, General Manager of the Yunnan Ribao Newspaper Group, explains the reason behind the investment. “Service networks, complete solutions for prepress, press and postpress, as well as the professional manroland teams in sales and customer support who do a great job.” This is how Wang Jianyou describes the cooperation with manroland.
