Five-colour comes into land at Standard Press near Heathrow
Monday 05. October 2009 - The Standard Press has installed its first brand new press, a Speedmaster SM 52-5 supplied by Heidelberg UK to help the company handle its wide range of multi-media packaging.
This press will run alongside a single colour B2 Speedmaster with UV varnishing to produce DVD and CD products including wallets, inlays and booklets. The company has prepress and finishing services in-house, including a Heidelberg Cylinder for creasing and die cutting and other inline gluing, folding and stitching plant.
“Previously we had bought good second-hand equipment because it seemed more cost-effective but this time round we couldnt find the press we wanted on the used market so opted to buy new after a convincing demonstration at Heidelbergs Brentford showroom,” says Lee van Engel, customer services manager.
“We needed to replace a ten year old SM 52-4 which we have had since 2002 and which has served us well, clocking up just over 100 million impressions. We are printing more jobs with a fifth colour and we had more requests to print with a seal. Already we are finding the press making a significant difference to productivity and the sealing option enables us to save drying time and looks better.”
The new press will run six 12 hour shifts a week at the West Drayton plant with overtime added as required. The dedicated and experienced team has built a reputation for quality and first class service in its niche market.
