Agfa Graphics Dotrix Modular, adds in line sheet cutting to the production process

Wednesday 30. September 2009 - At LabelExpo, Agfa introduces the inline Edale sheet cutter especially developed for its :Dotrix Modular press.

Agfa Graphics at LabelExpo in Brussels (September 23-26), shares floor space with the UK based flexo press manufacturer Edale Ltd. In an earlier announcement both companies unveiled a strategic alliance. As a result of the partnership, Agfa Graphics and Edale have developed an inline converting cutter module. It was launched at “Print” in Chicago (September 11-16) and LabelExpo. This converting unit, offered as an optional module to the :Dotrix Modular single pass UV press, completes the Agfa Graphics value proposition for the packaging industry.

Agfa Graphics and Edale Ltd have been working together to build the :Dotrix Modular. The SPICE (Single Pass Inkjet Color Engine) of the :Dotrix Modular is integrated on the industrial base which builds on Edale’s expertise in narrow and medium flexo web press design. Hence :Dotrix users have access to all on- and off-line converting equipment that is compatible with traditional flexo presses. The new in-line cutter by Edale was specially designed for the :Dotrix. It allows for automated cut position information transfer between the :Dotrix imaging software and the cutting device. This hands-free configuration reduces set-up time drastically between jobs: the cutter device flawlessly interprets job length variations (even within the job) without the need to stop production.
According to Agfa Graphics, “the in-line cutter will add value to the production process of low and medium runs. The :Dotrix in line converting tools are part of the :Dotrix Modular concept, it adds flexibility to your production process. Variable sheet cutting and print to pack or print to distribute are possible in-line. This means a huge profit in set up times, productivity and thus a lower cost of print for your short and medium run jobs.”
First installations of the :Dotrix in-line converting feature are expected later this year.
