Fostering the transformation of the business

Tuesday 15. September 2009 - Once again, Protecmedia will attend the most important trade fair for the newspaper industry, the IFRA Expo 2009, which will be held this year in Vienna from 12 to 15 October. The slogan chosen on this occasion, "Fostering the transformation of the business", defines perfectly the ideas and trends that predominate in the sector, which is immersed in a process of constant change and restructuring. In this context, Protecmedia wishes to demonstrate its ideas and solutions aimed at allowing news companies to tackle with confidence the new business models that are taking shape.

In view of all of these changes, Protecmedia has developed its solutions and services in an effort to strengthen its vocation as a partner of the media company, rather than being a mere supplier. Thus, in addition to the traditional functionalities that focus on providing a global and integrated platform for the management and preparation of contents, it now includes two new and vital areas in order to meet these new challenges. These two areas are everything related to distribution and Business Intelligence.

Protecmedia has produced a solution, called SHIPO, which is designed to manage everything connected to the circulation of a newspaper and that is based on geomarketing. Through this technology, the delivery routes and the different sales outlets can be closely controlled, obtaining data that, once cross-referenced, generates extremely valuable results that allow a company to optimize its performance. For example, knowing which sales outlets have sold all copies, or, on the contrary, have returned too many makes it possible to take decisions that save costs and increase the efficiency of a newspaper’s circulation.

Integrated management of the company

With respect to “Business Intelligence”, Protecmedia takes the view that the analysis of all data connected to a company can allow improvements to be made in all sectors. To this end, it has produced solutions that give a real time picture of the state of the business through an exhaustive examination of all such data. Once this data has been cross-referenced, it provides a much clearer picture of the profile of readers and advertisers, as well as the strong and weak points of the company. Management thus has at its fingertips the information that it requires to take the necessary decisions to keep improving the business.

Protecmedia has also concentrated on developing tools that allow the news company to operate as profitably as possible in other sectors, for example by exploiting its editorial assets. The sale of contents through Internet is, without doubt, a good way of making the most of the multimedia editorial assets that a news company possesses. These editorial assets are a real goldmine and there are myriad ways of exploiting them; with the right tools, a new and important way of earning revenue is opened up, something that is of great importance in the current economic climate.

In addition, Protecmedia continues to view convergence and integrated newsrooms as the best way of coping with the current challenges in the media sector. The single interface, adjustable to each professional profile, together with the LSO 3G protocol which allows mobile newsrooms to be set up and encourages mobile journalism, are extremely useful tools for the new style of journalism.

With all of these ideas, and many others, Protecmedia will be at IFRA Expo to demonstrate the advances made to its solutions, all of which aim to give the media company the tools it requires to adapt and grow in the new scenario prevailing in the industry and in the light of the new business models that are opening up in this field.
