Abundant packaging variants on a single machine

With the new Varioline, Krones has created an absolutely up-to-the-future end-of-the-line packaging concept: a multi-purpose, modularised, all-in-one machine.

Tuesday 15. September 2009 - The Varioline packaging system from Krones

The Varioline packaging system now being premiered by Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, is an ultra-versatile concept capable of comfortably handling a multi-stage packaging process. Depending on the precise configuration of the machine involved, primary, secondary or even tertiary packages can be created. The design enables loose containers like glass bottles, PET bottles or cans to be grouped in multipacks and/or multipacks in plastic crates, folding cartons or wrap-around cartons. Depending on the combination involved and the number of modules deployed, very many different end-of-the-line packages can thus be created on a single packaging system.

To suit the particular range of packages being handled, the appropriate modules are chosen for the various job profiles involved. Cartoning module, feed module and basic module can be combined with each other to suit the particular range of packages being handled. The Varioline is in its totality designed for an output of 40,000 containers an hour or 9,000 primary packages (3×2 multipacks) per hour.

Flexibility for the future and a minimised footprint
The Varioline also, of course, offers flexibility for the future, otherwise it would not have deserved its name. New packaging solutions can be easily implemented by fitting new tools. Any subsequent expansion of the machine will not affect the existing formats at all. Depending on the layout concerned, space savings of around 60 to 100 square metres are achieved compared to a conventional packaging line. The Varioline cuts the clients’ packaging costs, since they now have a free choice of carton supplier, and are not tied to a particular vendor.
