Krones integrates water treatment into its process technology

Monday 14. September 2009 - Krones’ process technology capabilities have now been rounded off by another important building block for beverage production: at drinktec 2009, Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, showcase a new water treatment system developed and manufactured in-house

Depending on the particular application concerned, Krones deploys one of the two classic options: media filtration and/or membrane technology. Media filtration, featuring filter materials like activated carbon, gravel or special granules, is used predominantly for prefiltration. It’s also unbeatable for removing special constituents like organic substances, iron, manganese, arsenic or uranium. When it comes to membrane technology, Krones offers options of ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis. Besides mash-liquor or process-water treatment, reverse osmosis can also be used for various other purposes, such as fruit juice redilution, production of near-water beverages, or also for producing boiler feedwater/cooling-tower water.

In a specific application, Krones has installed the mash-liquor brewing-water treatment system for a top-ranking German brewery. This system is on show at drinktec 2009. In the brewery, the water from the municipal mains is treated to create the mash liquor. One very significant advantage of Krones’ water treatment system is its interfacing with the line documentation system (LDS). In the case under discussion here, an LDS has already been installed in the bottling line.
