Monday 14. September 2009 - Features the world‚s first water-based white ink to achieve the widest colour gamut and an optional Epson SpectroProofer? for consistent proofing results

Epson is pleased to announce the global launch of the 24‰ Stylus Pro WT7900 printer featuring the world‚s first white aqueous ink for packaging proofing and sample production. The new inkjet printer will make its global public debut at Labelexpo held at Brussels Expo, 23 ˆ 26 September 2009 (Booth G60, Hall 9).

Designed specifically for packaging proof applications, the Stylus Pro WT7900 is the latest addition to Epson‚s large format Stylus Pro range of inkjet printers and reinforces Epson‚s commitment to the packaging industry. It features sophisticated colour management and control, wide gamut reproduction and precision printing on a variety of flexible film, paper and metallic media to deliver the quality results important for contract packaging proofs and accurate sample production.

The printer uses a 9-colour Epson UltraChrome HDR (High Dynamic Range) ink set to produce a wide colour gamut and accurate spot colours. To deliver the high density white tints and accurate overlays important for packaging proof applications Epson has developed a water-based white ink specifically for this printer.

The optional Epson SpectroProofer? gives Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 users automatic and precise colour management and control for reliable and consistent proof verification, colour calibration, colour certification, profile creation, spot colour matching, colour shift tracking and target measurement. Furthermore, a colour certification label, such as the Fogra wedge, can be printed to support the certification process. These features enable users to integrate the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 into their production workflows very easily, onsite and over a network of remote locations if required.

Epson‚s MicroPiezo TFP? (Thin Film Piezo) printhead delivers perfectly spherical dots with high precision dot placement and can deliver resolutions up to 2880 dpi. Throughput is resulting in a maximum speed of up to 40m2/hr in standard mode; important for packaging proofing applications where productivity is of paramount importance.

In addition, the Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 features a raft of technologies to ensure the printer is ideal for production and contract proofing applications, including an integral automatic media rotary knife cutting system; a spindle-less roll holder mechanism; an automatic paper set/release mechanism and Epson‚s automatic nozzle check technology.

“The Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 is the latest addition to our professional graphics range and has been designed specifically for the high-end packaging market,‰ says Martin Johns, Senior Product Manager, Professional Graphics at Epson UK. “We have implemented technologies and features to address the specific requirements of the market, backed by Epson quality, speed and reliability. Beta-test feedback has been extremely good and at Labelexpo we will demonstrate its ability to produce cost-effective, highly accurate proofs and a range of package mock-ups.‰

At Labelexpo, Epson will demonstrate the powerful functionality of the new Stylus Pro WT7900 alongside the established and award-winning large format Epson Stylus Pro 7900, 9900 inkjet printers and the GS6000 eco-solvent type printer. At the show Epson partners with leading software technology partners including CGS, EskoArtwork, EFI and GMG, to show a range of innovative packaging solutions that are helping to fuel the evolution of the industry.
