PrintNet Designer 6.0 Offers New Levels of Color Support, Repurposing Legacy Files and Enhancements in Proofing

Friday 11. September 2009 - GMC Software Technology, the standard in personalized communication, today launched the latest version of its popular PrintNet? Designer software. As the cornerstone of GMC Software Technology’s framework for unified customer communications, PrintNet Designer 6.0 will be demonstrated for the first time at Print 09, booth 6511, at the McCormick Convention Center, September 11-16, 2009 in addition to GMC PortalBuilder and GMC Open Document Publisher software products.

PrintNet Designer 6.0 enables the rapid creation, management and production of complex personalized documents for TransPromo, direct marketing, on-demand publishing, customer correspondence and transactional applications. As the latest addition to the PrintNet Software Suite, PrintNet Designer 6.0 contains a number of new enhancements and features that improve and extend the product’s functionality in the areas of color management and the repurposing of legacy print streams as well as improvements in proofing and pre-flight.

New PrintNet Designer 6.0 highlights include:

PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM and PANTONE Goe Support
PrintNet Designer 6.0 adds support for the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM and PANTONE Goe, enabling users to make precise color matches for personalized direct mail, transactional, TransPromo applications and other documents. As a result, enterprises and print service providers can now switch from costly pre-printed, offset printed “shells” toward 100 percent digital color on plain stock, saving time and money while still meeting the most stringent corporate color specifications. In addition, PrintNet Designer 6.0 contains features that allow enterprise users and print service providers to more precisely estimate ink and toner usage for print runs, manage ink and toner inventory while maintaining environmental practices.

Repurposing Legacy Print Streams
While PrintNet Designer has long been able to repurpose spooled print files, version 6.0 adds to this capability by allowing users to import PCL (Printer Command Language) files as fully editable objects for design and layout modification. This removes the need to redesign the document from scratch in situations where the document producer does not have access to the original data or the application that created the file is not accessible, saving GMC’s end-users time and their customer’s money.

Improvements in Proofing and Pre-Flight
PrintNet Designer 6.0 will also feature improvements that enhance accuracy when estimating ink usage. Job pre-flight shows the percentage of coverage for each digital (CMYK) output color. End-users can now estimate printing jobs with greater precision that allows them to better control costs.

Building the Unified Customer Communications Experience
While printed communications still plays a strong role in a customer communications strategy, marketers have found that a multi-channel or cross-media approach delivers better results than just print or electronic mediums alone. To support this trend, GMC Software Technology has developed solutions to provide a framework for a centralized customer communications platform that allows companies to streamline communications, leverage their investments in CRM and prospect databases, control messaging and brand while saving money. The framework for a unified customer communications platform includes tools for data management and document design; managing media and metrics; web portal development for collaboration and interactive customer communications; managing multimedia production as well as service and training.

PrintNet Designer 6.0 is available for shipment today. Current PrintNet Designer users should contact their local sales office for pricing and to schedule upgrades.
