Tecnolito Launches Web-to-Print Service for Packaging
Thursday 10. September 2009 - HP Indigo press 5500 with Thick Substrate option enables new service
HP today announced that Tecnolito, of Caprino Bergamasco (Bergamo), has installed an HP Indigo press 5500 with Thick Substrate option to offer a wider range of digital products including packaging.
Established in 1978 as a “company of services,” Tecnolito offered prepress and lithographic services, later adding the design and printing of packaging samples through its creativity department.’ In addition to sample production, the company prints a wide range of commercial products including greetings cards, flyers, brochures, catalogues and marketing materials. It also was one of the first printing companies to offer a digital asset management and storage service for its customers.
In 2005, Tecnolito took the step into digital printing, installing an HP Indigo press 3050. Now, the company is expanding its packaging printing capacity by adding the ability to print short-run and sample paperboard and cartonboard packaging digitally.
Transforming the vision
“During our first years, we aimed to establish ourselves as a company of services’,” said Luigi Stefano Campanella and Andreina Andreis, founders and owners, Tecnolito. “When we moved into digital printing, we saw that it was time to transform again, this time into a company of production’.”
In Autumn 2009, Tecnolito will launch its latest innovation, a web-to-print service for digital packaging, http://www.pack48.it/.
“The HP Indigo press 5500 will enable us to manage orders coming from the web, which will mainly comprise carton and paperboard packaging for short and medium runs, samples and mock-ups,” explained Campanella. “In order to realise our web-to-print project, we need more flexibility in our processes and high quality output. That is why we have opted for our second HP Indigo press.”
Tecnolito’s new press is a six colour press that will be able to match more of the PANTONE Colours used by brands in packaging. The Thick Substrate Kit option that adapts one of the paper-feed drawers and conveyor to handle substrates up to 450g/m2 means that the range of packaging that can be printed digitally is dramatically increased.
Mr Campanella has become a convert to digital printing over the years, and his investment in a second HP Indigo press testifies to his belief in the technology.
“I used to consider digital printing to be a technology with no future,” he said. “Today, I believe that digital printing technology is the future because it offers quality, speed, flexibility and the convenience of short and medium production runs.
“We are very satisfied with our partnership with HP,” Camanella concluded. “We are happy with the performances of our HP Indigo presses and with the results we are achieving.”
