Kodak and IGAEA Join again to Produce Print 09 Poster Celebrating 2010 Graphic Communications Week

Thursday 10. September 2009 - Poster featuring founding father of print Ben Franklin will be available at IGAEA and Kodak Booths

Kodak and the International Graphic Arts Education Association (IGAEA) join forces once again to produce a color poster promoting careers in the graphic communications industry. The poster is printed on a KODAK NEXPRESS S3000 Digital Production Color Press and will be available to Print 09 attendees at the IGAEA booth (#8060) in “Education Alley,” as well as Kodak’s booth (#6907).

The 14 in. x 20 in. poster features the word “Print” in rays streaming from a bright lightbulb, completing the theme “Print Enlightens the World.” An image of the earth appears at the bottom of the poster while a transparent image of Benjamin Franklin is visible in the background. Ben Franklin is celebrated as the pioneer of electricity, but he’s also regarded as one of the founding fathers of print.

The poster was designed by Susan Waltz, a student of Barbara Fischer in the graphics program at Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The design is a result of an IGAEA contest promoting 2010 Graphic Communications Week, which occurs Jan. 17-23, the week of Franklin’s birthday.

“As part of our continued commitment to promote print and education, Kodak is pleased to again help produce this poster and support such an important event,” said Jeffrey W. Hayzlett, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President, Kodak. “This is a great way to illustrate the many unique and exciting career opportunities available in the graphic communications industry.”

In addition, the IGAEA will distribute the poster to members of the organization at college campuses and high schools throughout the United States and the world.

“We’re very proud to have our poster produced by Kodak on a KODAK NEXPRESS Press,” said Dennis Dougherty, IGAEA Second Vice President. “This is an annual contest for students of IGAEA members, and each year the board of directors chooses the top three posters. Each winner receives a monetary award, and the first place design becomes the poster for Graphic Communications Week, as well as the cover for our Visual Communications Journal publication. I invite all graphic communications and printing technology educators to join IGAEA and become an advocate for print.”

The International Graphic Arts Education Association is an association of educators in partnership with industry, dedicated to sharing theories, principles, techniques and processes relating to graphic communications and imaging technology. For the past three years, Kodak has worked with the IGAEA to print and distribute posters that promote the advantages of the industry as a career choice.
