Xerox Helps Healthcare System Cut Costs, Increase Patient Focus
Tuesday 11. August 2009 - Methodist Healthcare outsources document management to Xerox; redirects savings to advance patient care
Healthcare organizations looking for simple ways to cut expenses and make better use of technology can take the lead from Methodist Healthcare. Methodist, the largest provider of healthcare in San Antonio and South Texas, is cutting millions from its annual operating spend by working with Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) to better manage the documents flowing through its 23 facilities – and the costs associated with printing, sharing and updating them.
“Xerox knew more about managing our document needs than anyone else we interviewed,” said Geoff Crabtree, senior vice president, Methodist Healthcare. “They took note of everything from regulatory requirements to employees’ daily work processes and designed a print strategy that lets us keep our focus on the patients.”
Methodist turned its entire document management process over to Xerox Global Services. Using an online submission process, employees send everything from medical forms to marketing collateral and patient handbooks to an in-house print center. Onsite Xerox document advisors work with Methodist Healthcare to design more effective patient communications and help comply with industry regulations.
With on demand printing, Methodist also reduced the cost of inventory, eliminating piles of hard-copy forms taking up warehouse space. Documents are now easily updated to address new regulations or changes to patient care forms, and can be translated or personalized to improve the effectiveness of patient communications.
“Document outsourcing is a logical business strategy for healthcare. Organizations like Methodist not only reap cost savings benefits but also redirect dollars back into the clinical environment to advance patient care,” said Valerie Mason Cunningham, vice president, Healthcare Industry, Xerox Global Services.
Xerox Global Services was recently named the worldwide leader in Document Process Outsourcing by the Black Book of Outsourcing. The Black Book of Outsourcing research results are recognized as the most extensive and representative perspective study on outsourcing vendors, validated by more than 24,000 respondents from service users around the globe.
