Hammer GmbH Invests in Two Dymatrix Die Cutters
Tuesday 04. August 2009 - End-to-end packaging printing concept tips the balance in favor of investment
Two Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB die cutters from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will soon be up and running at Hammer GmbH in Lübeck. The first was installed in November 2008, with the second to follow at the start of August this year. Both die cutters replace products from another manufacturer. They are designed to handle the high-speed output from a Speedmaster XL 105-6+L press from Heidelberg, which was also taken into operation at the Lübeck plant at the end of 2008.
Hammer’s production operations focus on demanding jobs with long runs and a high finishing quality and are geared primarily towards producers of branded goods in the food industry. “To be successful in this market segment, we need the most cost-effective and technically advanced solutions,” emphasizes plant manager Ralf Linnerth. “The technical reliability of the machines plays a key role for us because we work in three shifts 5.5 days a week. That’s why we need a partner who is able to meet these requirements reliably in the long term – and can also provide us with fast and efficient service after the sale,” he adds. “We opted for two new die cutters from Heidelberg thanks primarily to the company’s complete end-to-end concept, which no other manufacturer was able to offer on the same scale.”
Moving into the 3B format with the Speedmaster XL 105
In addition to the two die cutters, the packaging manufacturer also invested in a Speedmaster XL 105 six-color press with coating unit last year. Since being installed, the press has printed around 15 million sheets. The additional investment was made necessary due to the sustained company growth and goes hand in hand with the pressroom’s switch to Heidelberg products.
The packaging printing company was founded 90 years ago. Today, 240 employees process and finish more than 600 million packaging products each year, generating sales of around EUR 42 million in 2008. Staff in the in-house development department are responsible for coming up with unusual packaging ideas for cardboard – tailored to every application. In addition to the headquarters in Lübeck, the company also operates a production site in Poznan, Poland, which took a Varimatrix 105 CSF into service a few weeks ago.
Heidelberg has been active on the packaging printing market for many years now. At drupa 2008, the company launched its first integrated production and software solutions from a single source. Its portfolio includes solutions for prepress, press, postpress, and integration based on the Prinect workflow.
