Staples, Inc. Announces Senior Executive Changes

Monday 03. August 2009 - Mike Miles Assumes Responsibilities for Staples International;Peter Ventress to Accept Position Outside the Company

Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) today announced that Mike Miles, Staples president and chief operating officer, will assume responsibilities for Staples International effective September 1. Miles takes on the responsibilities from Peter Ventress who is leaving the company to accept a position as CEO of a UK-based public company.

“I’d like to thank Peter for his contributions to the company over the past year. He’s been instrumental to the success of the Corporate Express integration effort. We wish Peter all the best in the future,” said Ron Sargent, Staples chairman and chief executive officer. “As we move ahead, Mike brings his tremendous leadership skills to his new responsibilities. He will drive our growth throughout Europe and in high-growth markets as Staples works to become the world’s best office products company.”

Miles joined Staples in 2003 as chief operating officer and was promoted in 2006 to president and chief operating officer. He has driven industry-leading growth across the company’s North American business units, entering new retail markets, acquiring new business delivery customers of all sizes and expanding product and service offerings beyond office supplies. Miles will now be responsible for all of Staples’ international businesses. The company’s US retail and delivery businesses will report to Ron Sargent.
