The Washington Post Launches Facebook Connect
Monday 15. June 2009 - Initial Integration Allows Facebook Users to Connect, Share on washingtonpost.com
The Washington Post today becomes one of the largest major news sites to launch Facebook Connect, integrating the power of the Facebook Platform throughout washingtonpost.com. Users will be able to easily share content with their friends and login to the site using their Facebook user name and password.
“Facebook has more than 200 million active users worldwide, and providing a way for those people to connect to our site through Facebook promotes a more robust conversation about our content beyond the walls of our site,” said Goli Sheikholeslami, General Manager & Vice President, Washington Post Digital.
In addition to the initial integration of Facebook Connect, The Washington Post is exploring other implementations such as creating more dynamic live discussions, encouraging user-generated content and developing a more personalized presentation.
“Our long-term strategy is to move towards creating an increasingly personalized experience for our users, allowing them to carry their social network onto our site,” added Sheikholeslami.
Users who want to sign in to washingtonpost.com with their Facebook accounts should look for the “Connect with Facebook” button on the login page on washingtonpost.com, which will pop up a small window with the recognizable Facebook logo.
