Personal Media Solutions Wins Packaging & Manufactured Goods Category in the 2009 FESPA Digital Print Awards
Friday 12. June 2009 - Netherlands-based Personal Media Solutions has been named winner of the Packaging & Manufactured Goods Category in this years FESPA Digital Print Awards, supported by HP.
The FESPA Digital Print Awards jury of independent experts selected the Dutch company for its innovative packaging solution developed for its product MyChewingGum.com. The main aim of the project was to produce customised premium brand category packaging at an affordable price, with a universal appeal for men, women and children of all ages, for sale year round.
Nico Veenendaal, Managing Director, Personal Media Solutions explains: “Having produced the only solution for affordable low-volume packaging of personalised chewing gum on the market, we encountered a number of challenges along the way.”
“Our most important consideration was finding good blister packs for the chewing gum, which we currently fill manually. We have since developed an automated machine for filling and sealing the packs at 2,000 pieces an hour, which will come on stream after summer 2009.”
Veenendaal concludes: “After selling more than 50,000 packages, we partnered with the cutting-edge chewing gum brand Cadbury Stimorol, who was interested in co-branding with us. Printed on the Xerox iGen3, customers are able to order packs via our website (www.mychewinggum.com) or our affiliates sites. In Q1 2009 more than 240,000 customised packages were sold.”
Nico Veenendaal celebrated with other Category Winners at an exclusive dinner event in Amsterdam on 11th May, where he received his prize certificate from HPs Laurence Vermeire, Marcom Manager at HP Inkjet Industrial Division.
Commenting on Personal Media Solutions success, Nigel Steffens, FESPA CEO, said:
“Each year, weve seen the popularity of the packaging category increase, making the job of selecting one exceptional piece of work a difficult undertaking. Personal Media Solutions beat stiff competition and we hope that the companys success in this years competition will inspire other packaging and manufacturing companies to harness digital print technology to develop similarly exciting solutions for their customers.”
