Ricoh unveils biometric features to improve paper-based document security
Wednesday 03. June 2009 - Demonstrates new technology to protect sensitive information at Infosecurity Europe 2009.
InfoSecurity Europe London, Stand 102: 28-30 April 2008 – Ricoh UK will be previewing the concept of biometric identification functioning with Ricoh Multifunctional devices (MFDs) at the Infosecurity Europe exhibition held at Earls Court, London 28-30 April 2009. The concept is designed to function with Ricohs partner product Equitrac Office 4 & Express 4, following requests from its customers to help them improve the security and release of sensitive information.
For the first time, users will be able to release their own print jobs and track copy jobs by identifying themselves at the device using fingerprint technology. This offers added security, control and convenience of all document output requirements and reduces the risk of sensitive data falling into the wrong hands.
“By utilising user authentication on Ricoh MFDs via biometrics, username/password, proximity card or simple user ID, users are able to identify themselves easily using the most convenient method to gain access to their secure printing or to allow them the ability to scan securely to network resources,” explains Helen Berentzen, security product manager at Ricoh.
“The emphasis these days is very much on leveraging information security from an electronic point of view and making this simple to use. Yet, paper-based information is just as vulnerable to loss or theft,” she adds.
“Its human nature to have a quick glance at something that could be gossip-worthy or valuable in some other way. So an information security strategy needs to cover both electronic and paper-based information,” she concludes.
