Borealis showcases performance-enhancing innovations at ENGEL Symposium

Friday 15. May 2009 - Material innovations designed to boost moulder productivity and enhance the performance of automotive parts, healthcare applications, appliances and packaging will be showcased by Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, at the ENGEL Symposium 09 in St. Valentin, Austria.

On May 27-28, 2009 ENGEL’s guests from the global plastics processing industry can view Borealis’ latest polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) developments at the event’s Partner Fair, ranging from step change advances that make life easier, safer and reduce environmental impact, to cost-saving solutions that improve product design.

On Day One, Borealis will demonstrate why Borealis’ automotive materials are among specifiers’ top choice for interior, exterior and under-bonnet parts that meet the manufacturing, performance, weight-saving and fuel-reduction challenges facing the automotive industry. Breakthroughs include:

Borealis’ tailor-made all-PP innovation which reduces vehicle weight by replacing steel: a customised all PP rear seat carrier for the new BMW 7 series, delivering a significant weight reduction for the total system and improved recyclability by using an all PP-solution
Volkswagen’s pioneering switch to a glass fibre-reinforced PP compound from Borealis for its Air Intake Manifolds, delivering a step change in cost-efficiency, weight reduction and environmental performance and better acoustic behaviour
On Day Two, Borealis’ Moulding Business Unit will present its:

dedicated polyolefins for the healthcare sector, including the recently launched Bormed Blow-Fill-and-Seal (BFS) products for bottles and ampoules, suitable for different sterilization techniques
new BorPure range for caps and closures aimed at customers looking for high processability to reduce their production costs and improved organoleptics to preserve drinks
thin wall Borstar packaging grades with a unique combination of flow and transparency for house- and kitchenware and food packaging
new Borcom BG055AI for the white goods industry – the first PP to match the glossy aesthetics of ABS and deliver cost-saving manufacturing benefits
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to participate in the ENGEL Symposium and present our latest moulding solutions to plastic processers serving a wide range of industries,” comments Lorenzo Delorenzi, Executive Vice President Polyolefins. “Customer-focused innovation continues to be central to the Borealis strategy, providing a perfect synergy with ENGEL’s motto for its 2009 event – “close to the customer, open to innovation”.”
