Harland Simon upgrade press drive at Polestar Chantry
Thursday 30. April 2009 - Polestar Chantry at Wakefield are now benefitting from Harland Simons upgrade solution, replacingthe old drive control on the Baker Perkins G14 press using an industry standard thyristor converter.
The upgrade has replaced obsolete drive control electronics with a Siemens Simoreg dc drive unit, maintaining the use of the existing dc motor, whilst providing better diagnostics, monitoring andcalibration facilities.
The Baker Perkins press is always very busy and so the time available to complete the changeoverhad to be managed around Polestar Chantrys busy production schedules.
Gary Morton, Press Operations Director at the print plant said Polestar Chantry have a longrelationship with Harland Simon and so it was an natural decision to ask Harland Simon to providethe new drive control system. It was important to us that we were confident that we have a partnerwho could be trusted to complete the work without hurting our production. This proved to be agood decision as the upgrade went in on schedule and without us losing any production.”David Wallen, Director of Customer Services for Harland Simon said, Our experience of integratingindustry standard products into existing systems enabled us to provide a very cost-effective solutionthat many sites can benefit from. We have been very pleased with the way that we have been ableto work with Polestar Chantry and with the success of this upgrade
