Océ JetStream portfolio offers new features for greater productivity, quality
Wednesday 01. April 2009 - Black-only versions, pigment inks, processing performance, print quality
Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announced a number of new Océ JetStream models and features designed to help customers to explore new business opportunities.
“The market for digital high-speed production printing is still evolving and with these latest capabilities, Océ is at the forefront of development to help our customers maximize the potential of their high-speed, continuous feed color systems,” said Crit Driessen, Vice President Marketing and Strategy, Océ Production Printing.
New black-only configuration allows complete growth path
To better support customers in their migration strategy from black-and-white printing to full color printing, Océ introduces Océ JetStream configurations optimized for black-only printing. Customers benefit from excellent price-performance, while establishing a foundation for adding colors as their businesses require. “The addition of the black-only configurations to the award-winning Océ JetStream portfolio gives Océ the broadest inkjet-based portfolio in the market. Users gain a rich choice of solutions with the flexibility to fit all requirements for high-volume production printing while attaining the best price-performance,” said Crit Driessen, Vice President Marketing and Strategy Océ Production Printing.
New pigment ink expands choices
With the introduction of water-based pigment inks, Océ now offers both dye inks and pigment inks for high-speed production printing. Customers can choose the best fit based on application, paper stock, business purpose and desired quality. For direct mail, transaction, and transpromo applications, cost-effectiveness is an important consideration. Here water-based dye inks offer outstanding price performance. Moreover, dye inks provide vivid colors. Pigment inks are beneficial in applications where light fastness and document authenticity is needed. For documents that require long-term storage, such as government records, pigment inks are preferred.
Multi-level dot modulation creates smoothest images
Océ JetStream systems are powered with Océ DigiDot drop-on-demand inkjet technology for print quality at ultra high print speeds of up to 2,020 full color A4 images per minute. Océ DigiDot drop-on-demand inkjet technology allows extremely small droplet sizes from 7 pl. to 12 pl. The results are less ink consumption and lower operating costs and the ability to best fit the droplet size to the substrate for an optimal print quality. With the introduction of the JetStream Multi-level option, Océ again raises the bar for inkjet print quality. Océ’s JetStream Multilevel offers a finer gradation of dots sizes than other inkjet systems, hence, a smoother image representation and a stronger appearance of fine details. In particular, printed matter that includes human faces or panorama pictures shows a distinct difference with JetStreams’ Multi level option.
RPO for printing complex variable pages at full speeds
Rasterized Presentation Object (RPO) is a powerful facility fully integrated into Océ production workflow that supports variable data printing at high print speed. Essentially, the workflow allows tagging certain page elements as RPO, then storing these as pre-RIPped objects in the cache memory of the SRA MP controller. This avoids having to RIP complete pages every time.
Integrating AFP and PDF printing
The AFP/IPDS format is one of the most secure and efficient in high production printing. However, offset preprinted forms and shells are commonly handled in PDF format. Océ now offers PDF printing in combination with AFP/IPDS printing, all fully integrated in its Océ PRISMAproduction workflow and SRA MP printer controller. This allows a smooth transition from the formats typical of offset production to standards needed for digital printing.” With Océ production workflow, customers benefit from robust AFP printing for large amounts of variable data, while leveraging “ready to print” PDF forms and shells.
Realizing the full promise of variable communications
Direct mail, transaction and transpromo applications often use offset pre-printed forms or shells that are then imprinted with black variable data that is mostly text. Those forms or shells – commonly in PDF format – can be encapsulated in the AFP data stream and subsequently RIPped and stored in RPO format in the controller cache memory. Users can print individual pages where the contents of each shell such as text blocks, graphs and images can vary. As a result, customers are able to take variable communications to the highest degree and benefit from the impact of highly personalized information.
High speed digital newspaper printing
The Océ SRA MP controller allows high engine speed printing of newspapers in PDF format using the “multi-copy” mode. Using the “RIP once, output many” approach, the controller teams with the Océ PRISMA print server for continuous high speed newspaper printing. One complete newspaper is RIPped prior to printing. Then this RIPped version is repetitively printed over and over in copy mode. Newspaper publishers can still meet deadlines and take advantage of the flexibility and quality of digital color printing.
Fast book printing through upfront RIP
The powerful SRA MP controller allows printing of single PDF book titles in low run lengths to help publishers maintain more economic inventory levels. As with newspaper printing, the Océ production workflow allows high print speed in copy mode. This helps achieve maximum productivity in book publishing workflow and accelerates fulfillment.
