Citrix Increases Value of Flagship Application Virtualization Solution

Thursday 12. March 2009 - New Enhancements to XenApp 5 Include Enterprise-class Server Virtualization, Dynamic Server Provisioning and Simplified User Profile Management

Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTXS), the global leader in application delivery infrastructure, has unveiled a set of new improvements to its flagship application delivery product line, Citrix XenApp, that make delivering Windows applications as an on-demand service even easier and more cost-efficient for IT. These new features are designed to make the most of XenApp implementations by offering superior capacity planning, server provisioning and application management tools, all while providing users with a seamless experience anytime, from anywhere, with any device.

“Citrix understands the challenges that our customers face today with shrinking budgets and the pressures of ‘doing more with less,’ and we are committed to helping businesses meet these challenges using proven technology that impacts the bottom line,” said Mick Hollison, vice president of XenApp product marketing at Citrix Systems. “As a core component of the Citrix Delivery Center product family, XenApp is now even more valuable in helping organizations manage and deliver applications using fewer resources by adding hundreds of dollars in value on top of what they already get with XenApp for no additional cost.”

XenServer Enterprise-class Virtualization Platform Now Included in XenApp
As detailed in Citrix’s recent announcement on Feb. 23, Citrix XenServer will now be available as a core feature of all editions of Citrix XenApp, extending the value of its enterprise-class server virtualization to the more than 1 million servers currently running XenApp in datacenters today. Using XenServer with XenApp allows organizations to virtualize XenApp server workloads, effectively converting a single physical server with idle capacity into multiple, virtual servers running at full capacity. Customers benefit from server consolidation with virtually no overhead and increased agility through flexible, enterprise-class virtual infrastructure.

The Power of One: Manage and Deliver Applications from a Single Image with Provisioning Services for XenApp
Included in the new enhancements to XenApp 5 is the ability to manage a single, standardized XenApp server image in a central location, and dynamically provision it to hundreds of XenApp servers across a large, distributed datacenter environment in minutes. Organizations can now save money on storage and ongoing management while streamlining application management to respond faster to business needs.

Simplified User Profile Management Across Devices
New user profile management capabilities in XenApp 5 allow organizations to maintain and consolidate a user’s profile, eliminating common profile reconciliation problems such as write/overwrite issues when accessing user settings on different devices. Additionally, XenApp 5 users will have a faster, seamless log-on experience with personal preferences that are always present.

Local Application Virtualization now Available to all XenApp 5 Users
Local application virtualization, previously only available in the Enterprise and Platinum editions of XenApp, is now available in every edition of XenApp 5. This powerful capability allows customers to stream centrally-managed applications to an end-user’s PC or laptop and run them locally in a virtualized environment, even when the user is disconnected from the network. As a result, XenApp customers no longer need to purchase separate licenses to enable offline access for mobile laptop users.

Accurate Capacity Planning with Load Testing Services
The management toolset included with XenApp Enterprise and Platinum Editions creates realistic simulations that help IT easily benchmark XenApp hosting servers. This new capability eliminates the need for third-party benchmarking software, and ensures organizations are using server capacity in the most efficient way.

The Most Cost-Effective Way to Deliver Applications to All Employees
When added to the proven technologies already included in XenApp 5 today, such as application performance monitoring, preferential load balancing and Citrix HDX technologies (see Feb. 4 release), these enhancements make XenApp 5 the most cost-effective way to deliver centrally-managed Windows applications to all users, in all locations – both connected and offline.

Pricing and Availability
The new features to Citrix XenApp 5 will be generally available on March 16, 2009. There is no additional cost to existing customers with Subscription Advantage.
