Industry Experts in Virtualization, Networking and Cloud Computing Take the Spotlight at Citrix Synergy 2009

Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) today announced the featured speaker lineup for Citrix Synergy 2009, the conference where virtualization, networking and application delivery meet. Synergy 2009, which will take place May 4 to 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, combines the Citrix iForum Global User Conference with two completely independent industry events – Virtualization Congress and Network World Live. Synergy also features Geek Speak Live, the ultimate un-conference where tech experts, industry analysts and bloggers take the reins, driving unfiltered real-world debates on todays hottest technology topics from desktop virtualization to cloud computing.
Synergy 2009 will offer an unparalleled array of technical and business sessions, as well as hands-on technology learning labs. Breakout sessions will be lead by experts from a wide array of analyst firms, technology vendors and independent industry organizations, focusing on the convergence of trends like virtualization, networking and cloud computing – and the impact they will have on transforming IT into more of an on-demand service. Synergy will also feature keynote sessions from thought leaders who will offer insights – as well as new product and technology announcements – designed to help customers build simpler, more cost-effective computing environments. The Technical Gurus
In response to popular feedback from past attendees, this years event features a record lineup of in-depth technical sessions on the topics that are critical to changing the economics of IT, particularly in todays environment. Synergys “Technical Gurus” come from a wide range of backgrounds and affiliations. This years lineup includes Simon Crosby, co-founder of Xen, and CTO of the Virtualization and Management Division at Citrix Systems; Alessandro Perilli, independent analyst and founder of virtualization.info, the industrys most popular virtualization news portal; Joe Skorupa, Research Vice President at Gartner covering advanced networking technologies; Richard Jones, Service Director of datacenter strategies at Burton Group; Christopher Hoff, Chief Security Architect at Unisys; Natalie Lambert, Principal Analyst covering IT infrastructure and operations at Forrester; Ron Oglesby, Virtualization Practice Executive at Dell; Winston Bumpus, President of the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF); Stephen Beaver, published author and virtualization evangelist at Tripwire; and Andi Mann, Research Director at Enterprise Management Associates focusing on IT intelligence and automation. The Visionary
Pat Gelsinger was the first CTO at Intel and now serves as senior vice president and general manager of the companys Digital Enterprise Group, overseeing more than half of the companys revenues. Dr. Gelsinger, who holds six patents and has authored more than 20 technical publications, will share his vision for how new developments in microprocessor technology will impact the worlds of virtualization and networking – and what companies need to do today to prepare. Gelsinger will cover the role of virtualization and upcoming new processing architectures in optimizing IT delivery from the datacenter to the desktop. He will also provide further details on Project Independence, the recent collaboration between Intel and Citrix to develop a hypervisor that runs directly on end user PCs and laptops.
The Forecaster
As Chief Research Officer and Senior Vice President of IDC, John Gantz is one of the industrys most seasoned prognosticators of industry trends and how they impact todays decisions. Applying his 30 years of experience as an IT analyst and published author, Gantz will offer a fascinating look at todays economic crisis and its impact on the new era of computing. He will discuss how the sudden shock of the economic crisis will affect the major megatrends in technology – including virtualization, software-as-a-service (SaaS), Web 2.0, cloud computing and mobility – and drive the deployment of information and communications technology.
The Real World Practitioners
In addition to outside experts, Synergy 2009 will feature an outstanding list of senior IT practitioners offering case studies, insights and best practices from their own experience. The centerpiece of this lineup will be an IT executive panel lead by John Gallant, executive vice president and general manager of Network World, Inc. Gallant, one of the founders of Network World, brings 25 years of experience covering the technology industry. Garr Reynolds, former manager of Worldwide User Group Relations at Apple Computer, is now an internationally acclaimed best-selling author and associate professor of management at Kansai Gaidai University in Japan. At Synergy, Reynolds will explore the increasing tension between the complexity of function and the simplicity of design as it applies to enterprise IT. His thought provoking keynote will reveal the real reason technologies that offer the greatest breakthroughs in efficiency often never realize their full potential – not because of technical limitations, but because of the biases and blind spots of IT leaders who lack the vision or courage to do things differently. Reynolds will look at emerging trends in areas like virtualization, SaaS, Web 2.0 and cloud computing from an entirely different perspective, showing how IT organizations that have the courage to prioritize simplicity will be the ultimate winners.
The Strategist
Mark Templeton, president and CEO of Citrix Systems, has played a key role in leading Citrix from an early pioneer in application virtualization to an industry leader whose products now touch more than 200,000 enterprise customers, 100 million corporate desktops and 75 percent of all Internet users each day. In his keynote session, Templeton will discuss strategies for bringing the simplicity, scale and economics of the Internet to enterprise IT – today. Templeton will also preview and demonstrate several new breakthrough innovations that Citrix and its partners will be providing to change the game in virtualization, networking and application delivery.
