HP Holds Substrate Event for Print Service Providers

Thursday 29. January 2009 - HP today announced that it held a special event for print service providers (PSPs) focusing on the diversity of substrates on 27 January, at its Demonstration Centre in Sant Cugat.

The event gave PSPs who use HP Indigo presses a chance to meet with representatives of more than twenty substrate suppliers and Manufacturers and learn about new products and applications. Digital printing is a fast-growing sector in the Spanish market, presenting opportunities both for the paper vendors and the PSPs who can differentiate their services by increasing their understanding of what is available and the potential for enhancing applications.

HP Indigo digital presses are able to use the widest range of paper and synthetic substrates, including textured materials, of any digital presses. Particular interest was shown in substrates from sustainable sources, and recycled and recyclable materials.

The various HP Indigo presses can handle substrate thicknesses from 60g/m2 up to 350g/m2 to address applications for commercial printing, direct mail, book printing, labels, shrink sleeve and flexible packaging. The event focused on the two best-selling HP Indigo commercial presses, the HP Indigo press 5500 and the HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press.

“Substrate versatility has always been a key factor in the success of HP Indigo presses,” said Maya Dori, supplies and media manger, HP Indigo, Iberia. “The ability to print on such a wide range of substrates comes from the qualities of HP ElectroInk, which creates the look and feel of offset printing regardless of substrate or application. For our customers in Spain, this was an event to learn, share best practice and become enthusiastic about the possibilities for new substrates and applications.”

Third party substrates are extensively tested before being certified for use on HP Indigo presses at HP’s Worldwide Media Centre at the Rochester Institute of Technology. More than 400 substrates have been approved for use in Europe and more than 700 worldwide.
