Monday 26. January 2009 - HP today announced that the photofinishing print service provider (PSP), Photorec SPA, of Boves, Cuneo, Piemonte, installed an HP Indigo press 5500 to expand its product range and attract new business.

Part of the Rikorda Consorzio, Photorec is a privately owned company providing a variety of photofinishing services and digitally printed photo-specialty products to the northwestern regions of Italy and the southeastern departments of France.

“We opted for the HP Indigo press 5500 not only for its outstanding near-silver halide print quality, but also for its flexibility and productivity,” said Valeria Ramero, CEO, Photorec SPA. “We needed a press that could print on a range of different media. As this is the third HP Indigo press installation within Consorzio Rikorda, we were confident that this latest investment would provide significant opportunities.”

Among the opportunities already realised by Photorec is its ability to offer Rikorda’s branded Linea Life service, dedicated to photobook production. Another new product portfolio, Photoshopping, produces a range of other photo-specialty products on the HP Indigo press including calendars, agenda and greetings cards.

“The HP Indigo press 5500 is able to satisfy these two different markets because of its 7-colour capacity and the personalisation facility provided by the HP SmartStream,” said Valeria Ramero. “We also have the HP Indigo Commercial Job Estimator which helps us to make the best production decisions. We are extremely satisfied with the press; not only with the image and photo printing quality, but also with its flexibility and productivity.”

Photorec was established in 1970 as a family-run business and has one hundred full-time employees. With its HP Indigo press 5500 the company has plans to leverage its digital expertise and extend its services to professional photographers and short-run commercial printing.

Consorzio Rikorda began its association with HP in 2005 when HP supported the “Life project,” a long-term initiative designed by Rikorda to promote the development of digital photobook printing on non-photographic paper substrates. HP Italia worked as a partner with the consortium in the start-up phase of the project including supporting the launch and marketing the new services.
