Safe Mobile Phone Service for Children in Singapore
Friday 05. December 2008 - Giesecke & Devrient and Sentry Wireless offer parents a means of supervising their childrens mobile-phone usage and blocking undesirable calls
Singapore mobile operator, MobileOne (M1), is launching a new SIM-based application, in co-operation with Sentry Wireless and Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) that allows parents to monitor their childrens mobile phone usage. M1 will offer this new service, called KidSAFE, together with the Samsung SGH E200 handset and a G&D SIM card that will be pre-installed with the KidSAFE application.
“KidSAFE allows parents and kids to be mutually contactable at all times without risking the young ones to mobile scams. The service is simple to use, and offers parents the opportunity to educate their children on responsible mobile phone use,” said P. Subramaniam, Chief Marketing Officer, M1.
With KidSAFE, parents will be aware of who their children are communicating with, on both voice calls and text messaging. The parent or child enters authorized phone numbers in the SIM directory, and the parent then validates these entries using a PIN. The SIM card acts as a kind of firewall so that the child can only be reached by authorized numbers. So there is no need to buy a special child phone to be sure that children can use the mobile phone safely. This service directly addresses the needs of those customers ultimately responsible for childrens safety – parents. For network operators, KidSAFE represents a responsible approach to acquiring new users in the attractive under-fourteens target group, while allowing parents to monitor their childrens mobile phone usage.
