First manroland DirectDrive Press in the U.S.

The makeready time champion ROLAND 700 DirectDrive.

Friday 05. December 2008 - Central Florida Press will be the first to have ten-color unit

One of the largest commercial printing companies in the U.S. – Central Florida Press (CFP), a division of the MATLET Group – is installing the first ROLAND 700 DirectDrive. A leader in new and innovative approaches, CFP was the first company in the region with half web and full web presses. The MATLET Group is a full service commercial printing and fulfilment company headquartered in Pawtucket/Rhode Island. A certified Minority Business Enterprise, they are a Corporate Plus member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council and own four facilities in the Northeast and Midwest, in addition to CFP.

“We are extremely pleased to be the first printing operation to install manroland’s DirectDrive press,” said CFP President Greg Orlando. “We saw the DirectDrive prototype at drupa four years ago. We returned to Germany about a year ago to see the press and were impressed by what we saw. It is a makeready monster with much less paper waste compared to current technologies. We did our ROI analysis and made our decision rather soon thereafter. This press will reduce costs to the customer and get work completed much quicker.”

DirectDrive represents breakthrough technology

The manroland DirectDrive system is totally within the meaning of the added value strategy Value Added Printing, that is faster and cheaper and better and differently to be able to produce. The ROLAND 700 DirectDrive system is ideal for short-run, high performance printers, or those who use long perfectors with eight, ten or twelve units and do a high volume of perfecting work. The technological innovation of the ROLAND 700 DirectDrive in short: for the first time, plate cylinders and temporarily inking units are isolated from the mechanical drive system (gear drive) and driven by own motors directly at the plate cylinders. DirectDrive thus revolutionizes makeready functions, enabling up to 60 percent of conventional makeready time to be saved. No other 40-inch press offers such value-added options.

“We looked at other providers from a perfecting standpoint. Nobody had any options that compared to manroland’s DirectDrive,” said John Glick, CFP’s Senior Vice President of Sales
