Printers in a Buying Mood, First Diamond V3000 Purchases Recorded
Monday 01. December 2008 - Coastal Printing, Inc. and Pacific Graphics, Inc. may represent geographic opposites, but the two commercial printers share an appreciation for production efficiency and flexibility.
Sarasota, Fla.- based Coastal Printing and City of Industry, Calif.-based Pacific Graphics were among the printing companies that found satisfaction for their purchasing intentions in Chicago at Graph Expo 2008.
Coastal Printing placed the first order for a Diamond V3000 (29 1/2 x 41 11/32 inches) sheetfed press in the United States. The company ordered a six-color Diamond V3000LS (sheet thickness range of 0.0016 inches to 0.024 inches) with aqueous tower coater, SimulChanger plate-changing system and Diamond Color Navigator color adjustment interface. The highly automated press will be installed in early December.
Established in 1971, Coastal Printing specializes in full-color books, magazines, product catalogs and brochures, as well as point-of-purchase displays and vinyl shelf danglers. The company’s capabilities include trimming, folding, die cutting, embossing and foil stamping. In addition to complete digital prepress service, Coastal Printing offers online submission and review of print projects.
Mitsubishi’s new sheetfed press also piqued the interest of Pacific Graphics, a two-time Mitsubishi press buyer that definitely came to Graph Expo with expansion on its corporate mind. The 20-year-old firm purchased the Diamond V3000LX (sheet thickness range of 0.0016 inches to 0.040 inches) demonstration press off the show floor to augment its capacity in the full-size sheetfed market. The six-color press features an aqueous coater, SimulChanger and Diamond Color Navigator, plus a host of other benefit-creating design and engineering features incorporated into the Diamond V3000 series.
Founded in 1988, Pacific Graphics initially carved out a niche as a long-run narrow-web printer, producing multipart business forms for insurance agencies and manufacturers. These days, annual reports, marketing materials, promotional pieces, brochures and presentation folders make up an increasing percentage of the company’s annual print volume.
After branching out into sheetfed printing in 1996, Pacific Graphics added a six-color, 40-inch Mitsubishi 3F-13 four years later. A six-color, 28-inch Diamond 1000LS went into production in 2005. More recently, Pacific Graphics ventured into digital on-demand and variable data printing.
